Henson showed that he could get it done in NFLE AND that he has some areas to improve. That strikes me as a good outcome for a guy who hadn't seen this sort of playing time in many years.
You guys can "Rohan Davey" all day but you can't look at whether guys had success in NFLE but HOW they had success there and with what. Henson played pretty well despite receivers that couldn't catch (one estimate placed it at about 20 drops of clean throws), a WR crew that couldn't stay healthy, and a weak OL.

fortdick said:If you want to measure Henson's ability, think about what would happen if the Boy's released him. He would be scooped up by someone else and immediately be in competition for a starting job. Having the tools necessary to compete is essential, and it has never been said that he doesn't have these.
I enjoyed the analysis, even though I thought it overly critical. Football is the consumate team game. Statistics depend on other people doing their job. It was very obvious that his team mates were below par and that hurt him. His receivers dropped balls and his line ole' blocked.
I don't know if Henson can develope into an elite QB, but I believe he definately has more skills than either Hutchinson or Carter ever showed. I was really surprised with the way he moved in the pocket and scrambled when the pocket broke down. I did not expect to see that watching the games this spring. I knew he had the arm strength, size, etc., but the ability to scramble convinced me he would land somewhere if we cut him, and that he was a true NFL prospect.
kartr said:You're making several unfounded assumptions. How can Henson compete for a starting job elsewhere when he can't beat out a 'scrub' like Romo. If we released Romo, at best, he might wind up on someone else's practice squad.
I can't believe you think he has more skill than Carter, who was able start and win games as a rookie. Carter outplayed Jeff Garcia and Kerry Collins as a rookie, Steve McNair and Kurt Warner in his second year and Drew Bledsoe,Kerry Collins, Jake Delhomme and Donavin McNabb in his 3rd year. Henson was outplayed by every lousy qb the Bears had, including Chad Hutchinson in his only start. He was so bad that Parcells' was afraid to play him again lest he completely loses his confidence.

A QB, even in NFLE, is only as good as those around him. So the best way to judge Henson is to compare him to Chang, who played with the same players...Chang absolutely sucked when he played an entire game. To me, that showed how good Henson actually is.

I watched every game he played in NFLE (or Theebs Videos on a couple of occasions) and although it is obvious his receiving corp was slightly worse than what the Eagles' fielded the year before they got T.O., I just wasn't all that impressed with him. Yes, he shows "flashes" here and there, but I just don't think he did anything with the Fire to make me say "wow!" He was a hell of a lot better than Hutchinson playing in NFLE, but Hutch was a complete disaster.
I mean no disrespect to many of you when I say that I honestly don't see why Henson gets so much support and praise from those who constantly defend him at every turn. He's merely a 3rd string QB who currently doesn't look like NFL starting material to me.
I'm not saying the guy is a bust, but he sure doesn't appear to be the #1 overall draft equivalent the pundits claimed he was had he not played baseball. If that were the case, he should have dominated over there after being in the league this long. JMHO.
