Drew Henson: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

True. Unless Bledsoe just implodes or injuries mount at the position, I'm not sure Henson's going to get a chance to prove himself this season. Henson is going to have to try and separate himself somehow in practice and/or pre-season games in order to move up the depth chart, IMO.

I'm all for supporting members of our team, but I was kinda hoping the guy would have already starting pushing for the starting job by now. He's going into his third NFL season

that was after being away from the game for 3 years, and after totally 19 starts since high school, don't you think that expectation is a little unreasonable considering the circumstances?

and I just believe he should be making some strides up the depth chart if you believe what all the scouts said about him being a #1 overall talent. Henson's either average to bad right now, or Romo is better than we think.

I think this offseason is where we should see Henson making strides up the depth chart, IMO, he beats out Romo this preseason

yall know how I feel.

Henson is a wasted 3 pick.

that's a typical comment from a fan who doesn't understand what a long-term project is. we signed him for 8 years for a reason - b/c the team understood it would take a while with Henson.

and if he busts it isn't the big waste you suggest. First round picks -- Hell, top 5 picks, at QB bust pretty regularly (see Harrington, Couch, Smith, Leaf, etc.).

Intangibles: Seems like Henson is not a 'clutch' QB based on his inability to get it done against the NFLE's best. Call it an astute observation, but if you can't get it done against the minor leagues best, you won't be able to do it against the NFC's best.

If you use this logic then you would have to say the same thing about Bledsoe. He was our QB in both losses against the Commanders last year.

But he is proving himself. just not to us fans.
The coaches already have an idea of what they think Henson can accomplish. And it is based on things that we don't have access to witness.

Actually no, considering the rave reviews he was getting from NFL scouts about where he would have been drafted had he not opted for baseball. If this was year one, I would agree that my expectation level would be unreasonable.

However Henson's been in the system going on three years. He came from a big time college program and played with a future Hall-of-Famer in Tom Brady. He played in two NFL games, starting one of those. He has played in or started several pre-season games and now he has some quality playing time in Europe under his belt.

If the guy's talent matches what was written about him by all the 'experts', he should be in prime position to seriously challenge a former Division II, UFA QB in Tony Romo for the backup QB job...at least by now. I contend that if he isn't #2 by the opener (and not due to injury to Bledsoe or Romo), to believe he is "the future" at QB would be naive.

It's now or never. We all know Bledsoe is a stop gap QB, so we need to ascertain whether our future starter is on the roster right now. Is Romo the next Delhomme, or is he just a career backup? Is Henson really first round talent, or did Jerry get burned again trying to find another franchise QB on the cheap?

I'd be happy if just one of these guys pan out.
