If he sees them stuffing the box audible to a screen or pass. If he sees they are bringing 4 audible to a run. He has the power to do this and he apparently does it often he just doesn't do it right.
It is both the OC and QB job to do this. When you get paid top of the line like he is, your expected to be a field general.
but that's the defense disguising it. all night they had loaded the box but dropping into coverage, except who was dropping into coverage wasn't clear until the snap of the ball. that's disguising it...but regardless, when they did drop, then the OL needs to block better. evident from the first three series that penalties killed the drives. what do you do about that? the play is made, but its called back and made into a longer play and into the defenses hand....a 3rd and 4 could be a run play. a 3rd and 2 could be a run play. when its converted and then oops, penalty, now its a 3rd and 9 or a 3rd and 20....defense knows you are passing.
when you have three of the top paid OL men in Smith, Martin and Collins, then you expect them to block better. they haven't. they didn't. when you see chandler jones constantly and consistently in the back field abusing the OL men, then you account for him and chip him, or double block him, that's on the OC. but that never happened and chandler jones wreaked havoc all night. when the defense knows the play you are running because your call is so predictable, that's on the OC.
you want to conviniently place blame on one person. this failure is bigger than one person. did Dak play good? no, he didn't. but it wasn't just him. it was the OL, it was the RBs, it was the WRs....it was the defense. it was the coaches, it was the OCs. even Diggs had a rough game. Parsons was neutralized. this was a total failure top to bottom.
and in the end, we had opportunities we missed. Zeke dropped a ball that hit him square in the hands, right at his chest. Pollard did the same. Schultz did the same. Schultz missed and easy block as if he was not even there.....and Dak made a couple of bad over throws in the 4th..
this wasn't a single players fault. as much as you want it to be. reality says otherwise.
