I love Leary, but he was beaten out by a rookie. Then Collins was going to be the starter again this year until he was injured. Who's to say our OL wouldn't have been even better.

How soon fans forget all those pancakes they were drooling over last year. Collins was a road grader and good at getting to the second level. His weakness was pass protection and picking up stunts, pretty typical for rookies.

Get used to it; Collins will be our LG. With all our needs on defense and the need to resign some of our own guys, we aren't spending millions on Leary....end of story.

any of those that would have some advanced knowledge care to give your take? Thanks
When healthy, Leary is more consistent than Collins.

Collins upside is high and he can be dominant on some snaps. He just lacks consistency which should improve with experience.

It would only make sense to re-sign Leary if Collins was an option at RT.

The primary drawback with Leary is that he has had a groin injury every year. He usually plays through it but he is terrible when he is injured.
2014 Groin injury mid season. Had a few bad games in that span.
2015 Groin injury caused poor play then replaced by Collins.
2016 Groin injury in training camp. Would have been an issue in game 1 but ok by the time Collins was injured.

Personally, I would love to keep Leary and move Collins to RT. But, it probably won't happen.

I wouldn't be too down on Collins. He has far more potential than Leary. Leary is a better pass protector...anchors better and switches off the stunts better. If you watch Collins he can be really dominating in the run game but the stunts tend to give him trouble and he starts to reach on his blocks.

I don't know what will happen but I would like to resign Leary as the starter. At that point Collins might be the best RT candidate, but if not I still think he has more value to the team as a trade chip than as a backup OG.

I doubt this gets sorted out until the Cowboys see what offers Leary gets in FA however.

I'm guessing Leary goes to Washington, they have a huge need at left guard, have plenty of cap space, and Callahan knows him

I've got a list of concerns above Collins for Leary, mostly on the other side of the football.

Collins is a mediocre pass protector, and doesn't run block consistently well.
What if Collins was taught G.Bay's shoulder pad technique...........if he can lock on and control a guy with his pads he would be at a high level......

Are you talking the 4-12 season...uuuhhhmm.....

Cassell and Weeden regularly had 5 seconds to throw and DMC was a 1000 yard rusher for the first time in a long time.

I get that the record is an easy way to evaluate and all but it does not posit much.

Bryan Broaddus has said Collins was not a better player than Leary in 2015. It was more a procedural decision after an injury to get the ball rolling on a player they had determined was going to be a starter moving forward.

Leary is a better player. But the team is not re-signing him as much as we would all like that to happen. Collins is a good young player, so we'll be OK.

The issue is at RT. Does the team trust Green enough pencil him in at RT? Most of us don't but maybe they have a different opinion.

Our OL improved with Leary in the group....
People keep saying this but Collins played two games. The first was against a great defense in a rookie 4th round pick's NFL debut. The next was still in the period where Zeke himself admits to pressing (Morris was a better runner that 2nd game).

Collins will be just fine at LG and has higher upside than Leary. And will be significantly cheaper next year.

Resigning Leary would be a mistake.

I honestly dont think there will be much of a drop off from Leary to Collins. Our line was still great in 2015, WITHOUT Leary.

Perfect scenario is Leary stays and Collins goes to Right Tackle

Actually, the OL play improved when Collins went out and Leary came in.

Leary is so under appreciated by this fan base. This dude is nasty and mean. Just a huge bully on the line. He just fits this line

I think it has more to do with everyone pumping rainbows and unicorns up everyone's butt about Collins. They seem to believe him blowing up a DB means he is first ballot HoFer when his overall play has been inconsistent at best. Leary has played a solid game which means Leary played better than Collins. ...but Leary didn't throw a 205lb DB down.

It did but my point was the oline was still great in 2015. @percyhoward has posted stats on here numerous times, showing how good the o-line was in 2015, when Collins played a majority of the games...
