I hope it all translates to a freak DT.

all these are good signs. but how does it translate to football skills? can he get off the blocks? can he use his hands to get separation? does he have a spin move? can he penetrate the gaps?
we need football Player Mazi, not Olympic athlete Mazi.

Love the pick but we must be patient...

Not all positions hit the ground running when transitioning from the college game to the NFL. Positions like defensive tackle have a tendency to take time.

Yup, if he doesn't make the pro bowl year 1 he's a bust. Lol

But seriously it takes even the great ones a couple years at DT to find their way. ....not like a DE or LB which can be a bit quicker transition

Honestly, the athletic profile of Mazi Smith is outstanding. It is actually possible that the Cowboys have accidentally hit on an Aaron Donald type of defender, much like when they drafted Micah Parsons to play linebacker and actually got one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. Mazi Smith wasn't asked to rush the passer at Michigan, and his actual ability to rush the passer is unknown based on college experience. Drafting Mazi Smith could be a game changer for the Cowboys defense.

Only former North Carolina Head Coach Dean Smith could hold Michael Jordan under 20 points per game in basketball. Once he got to the professional level, he exploded. The Cowboys experienced something similar when drafting Micah Parsons two years ago. Is it possible for lightning to strike twice? Well, my great grandfather was hit by lightning twice, so I know it's possible. It would be pretty amazing if Mazi Smith turns out even better than expectations, like Micah did. Maybe only Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh could mask the ability of Mazi Smith. You can bet that if that ability exists, Dan Quinn will unleash it.

Definitely have to be patient. I think we will see some glimpses but year 2 and 3 is when we can see what they really drafted. He certainly has the size, speed, strength combo this D has been looking for so the excitement level and expectations are probably a little high in year 1. Young players take time..

Don’t jinx anything. How many times have there been “combine beasts” that looked less beasty on the field? Ask Eagles fans about Mike Mamula, lol. Or “44 rep” Broderick Bunkley.
I was literally about to mention Bunkley.

Another good example is Taylor Mays, one of my alltime favorite prospects. Amazing player in college, and so athletically gifted people thought he could do anything asked of him. Transitioned to the NFL and sucked donkey balls

I'm in NY saw I've seen a bit of Quinnen Williams - guy was the number 3 overall pick - and yes he was OK his rookie year but he kept getting better in year 2 and 3, and really broke out last year - his 4th - was All-Pro and is about to get paid.

While I'm excited to see Smith as well, the 3 cone and shuttle times are completely unverified other than an article written by Bruce Feldman before the season. Smith didn't perform either of those drills at either the combine or his pro day. The 34 reps is confirmed from the combine.

I'm happy the Cowboys invested in a big body on the dline finally. He certainly has the measurables and size to get you excited. The rest is up to his dedication, motor, and ability to understand scheme and technique.

Did I say he wasn’t going to be good? No, I didn’t. I simply said to exercise caution.
No, this is what you said:
