Is it really that complicated?

People always complain that Emmitt shouldnt be considered the best because he had a line, a good leadblocker, a good offensive balance ect ect

But Jerry Rice had the same advantages .......... and people never complain when he is called the best ........... why is that?

same thing with Joe Montana ........... why is Emmitt the only one who's legacy is punished for having other good people on his team?

I'd say the answer is really simple.

If you ask 10 NFL Head Coaches who the best RB in NFL History was you will get a variety of answers.

If you ask who the best WR in NFL History was you will probably get 1 answer.

I used the number 10 at random. Make it 50. Make it 100. The results will be fairly consistent.

This isn't a knock on Emmitt. It's simply that Jerry Rice is that far ahead of the field at his position.

How do you feel about Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, and Walter Payton ?

There is a reason and if you think about it you will understand. I dont agree. But I understand. Personally because of his toughness, I have to admit that Emmitt was a beast. But maybe still not the best ever regardless of the yards.

Jerry Rice is considered the best receiver because his stats are better than anyone else and he always came through in the big games (till his age got to him) and I agree (even if I hate the Niners)

Joe Montana is considered the best QB because of his ability to win and his leadership on the field (till his age got to him) and I agree (same as above)

Emmitt Smith has all the stats ........ all the Wins ......... all the Rings .......... and was the soul of his team and would never fail (untill his age got to him) ...Yet people keep making excuses

Other great players get overlooked, too, not just Emmitt. Why is Montana hands-down the best qb in history? Bradshaw won just as many titles.

If you ask the same question about QBs you'll get a variety of answers. If someone says Marino someone else will say he never won a Super Bowl.

When discussing all time greats there is usually a debate.

At WR I just don't think there is a debate.

I hate to go all testifying my love for Emmitt Smith, but I can't think of a more impressive rusher in the history of the league. Forget all the Super Bowls and playoffs. Think about this, the man never averaged under 3.7 yards a any year while he was in Dallas, and even in his second year in Arizona pulled off a very impressive 3.5 yards a carry. Not bad for a 15 year veteran.

Montana - Is arguable. So I wouldnt say clearly. There are several good QBs that people would say are better or comparable including Aikman. We can get to this one later.

Smith - Debatable to say the least. We can start with Payton who never had in his career, a QB with the talents of Troy Aikman. If you say crappy *** Jim McMahon I will know you arent serious.

No Cowboy fan wants him to be prone to injury. You may not want to hear it, but as of right now, Julius Jones is prone to getting injured and missing games. Hopefully time will prove this to be just bad luck to a beggining of a career. Just because you don't wanna hear it, doesn't make it a non issue.

I hope he shakes the injury bug and has a very productive, injury free career.

The thing that always leaves the debate unsettled is that every player does certain things better than the next guy at his position.

QBs: It's hard to say who is the best of all-time. I think Warren Moon is one of the top 5 QBs of all-time. Thats just my opinion. I have a problem saying Aikman is a top 15 QB of all-time. Superbowl QBs, sure he's right there in the top 5. Aikman is never going to get his rightful due, becuase we ran Emmitt to death and he sat back and watched. If we were the Rams of today, who's to say Aikman wouldn't have put up great numbers?

WR: No arguement, atleast not for a few more years. Marvin Harrison could make a decent case for an arguement if he continues to put up the numbers he has for another 5 years or so. Jerry Rice is simply the best.

RB: Theres one poster here that has a quote from Emmitt that in a nutshell says. If there was someone better than me(Emmitt Smith), then what was he better than me at doing? He poses a great question. Who was better at scoring Rushing TDs? Emmitt owns that record. Who was better at gaining yards? Emmitt hold the record for that. What detrmines who is the best? I love Emmitt, but Homerism aside, Barry Sanders was the most electric runner I've seen play. I'm only 22 years old, so my opinion is a bit scewed. I never got to see Walter Payton, Jim Brown, Gale Sayers, Eric Dickerson, or any other of the great backs that Emmitt is mentioned with. Emmitt had the Greatest Career to date, does that make him the best? Everyone has their own opinion.

Look injuries are going to happen their isnothing we can do about it......The best thing to do is try and not put yourself in a position where you can suffer an injury....But as we all know this is a Contact sport and anythng can happen.


If the guy lands on Emmitt Smith like he did JJ, he would also be hurt.


I hate this INjury prone CRAP!!!.......Julius JOnes is a strong player...... But this is not the 90s and we dont have that MONSTER O line anymore.
