was that a highlight reel or just a clip with routine catches? this is a classic case of good speed in a straight line, but not good football speed. as was the case with troy williamson

If you are comparing Bowe to Williamson, then you know nothing about either player. Troy Williams was blazing fast, but the knock on him was production. Bowe is fast enough, but he is more of a possession-type receiver as others have stated. Bowe is taller and heavier. The difference in production at the college level is night and day between the two.

As for lacking football speed, but having good straight line speed, watch the video again. I don't see one play where he just runs a fly and runs past people. The guy is making moves and getting open. I think he has good football speed. Not the best, but again, we're picking 22 not 2, which is what it's going to take to get Calvin Johnson.

On a side note, if anyone finds a decent highlight reel for Meachem, I'd love to see it.

He wasn't getting a lot of seperation on that reel. Many of those catches came from Russel threading the needle on some beautiful throws 25-30 yards down field on a laser. Bowe reminds me of Reggie Williams.

Mark Clayton was from Oklahoma. At this point, I'm pretty stumpted as to who he was talking about...

GUy named Troy Edwards, from Lousiana Tech., not LSU. I know Pittsburgh drafted him (believe in late 1st round) a few years ago, and I actually remember wanting him, he was kind of highly rated coming out that year... I don't know where he's at now, or what he has done, though...

Looks like a pretty average #2/#3 NFL receiver.

See, that's kind of what I like about him. Yeah there are some plays where he smokes the DBs - like the double move deep post (or is it an in?) and the out routes. However, he can make the tough catch in traffic when the QB has to thread the needle. If you can do that - you can play in the NFL because there are going to be times when you can't get separation. Michael Irvin made a career out of these catches.
