Eagles are hesitant to pay Carter, per Breer

As much as I value the DT position, and as talented as Carter is, gotta say no. Way too much possibility of issues.
Pay him then if there is a problem move on. They showed they can get something for guys like Sam Bradford and Carson Wentz and even AJ Brown now. People are always starved for good DT play. I sign him.

Davis is a three down player where Carter is a two down player. That's probably why they up the money for Davis.
In 2025 after Davis lost a lot of weight, he ended up playing 65% of all defensive snaps (in large part due to Carter’s injury). For comparison, Quinnen Williams has ranged between 57-69% his entire career.

In his last healthy season of 2024, Carter played 84%(!) of all defensive snaps, which led all DT’s. In 2025 despite playing injured and then missing time due to surgery, he still hit 84% again in games he appeared in.

Both are now 3 down players, but Carter is a rare 3 down, all game iDL now in year 4. Aaron Donald never played 84% of defensive snaps in his first four years despite 3 1st team all-pros and a DPOY. Neither Fletcher Cox nor Chris Jones ever played 84% of defensive snaps their entire careers.

I read a couple of nuggets that they are a bit concerned about Carter's leadership and maturity once he gets paid.
