Eagles, Giants, Bucs; win 2 out of those 3 and we will stay alive

I said after the Eagles game that we'd be okay if we went at least 3-5 with Romo out. People thought I was being a pessimist. Now people would be happy with 2 wins in the 7-8 games Romo will miss.

Fortunately we had a chance to win both games we lost. That means we're still as good as these teams even without 90% of our stars. We won't compete with New England or Seattle. I knew this after the Philly game. But we need to compete and actually win the other games. We can't afford to keep coming up short. Imagine how bad of shape we'd be in if the Giants didn't hand us a win.

You have no idea because the team still has a lot of bullets in the chamber.
The problem is that the Giants Schedule is incredibly easy over the next 5 weeks.

Seriously:
-49ers
-@ Eagles
- Cowboys
-@ Saints
-@ Bucs

I have them going 4-1 over the next 5. If that happens the division is basically out of reach.

The wildcard will not be available at 9-7.

What's their next game?

Don't rule out Seattle. Nothing special about that team. Wilson won't survive the season behind that offensive line.

I think the Giants game after the bye will tell the fate. If the defense can't hold teams under 21 points and get off the field on 3rd down or create turnovers then this offense is not going to outscore other teams in shootouts. The defense needs to step up with Hardy, McClain and Gregory. There is no excuse for not being able to stop the run and adjust to uptempo and dink and dunk quick passes. Having Lee and McClain covering that underneath zone with middle pressure from Hardy and Crawford should produce better results than what we have seen so far. The defense needs to help the offense build some momentum with some 3 and outs.

On offense, they have to find ways to punish the overload against the run or match up blocking. Put Collins in as an extra blocker in an offset line. You're not fooling anyone with your run plays, so you have to win the matchups. Line up heavy and just go downhill. I don't have any confidence that Weeden can do anything more than what he is directly instructed to do. He has no scrambling ability at all. The offensive line is protecting a statue back there. Street is invisible and I don't think Weeden will ever throw back shoulder after seeing him try to force he ball over the top to Williams 4 times in a row. Mimic the Patriots and Saints offense with two slot receivers and two TE's and just work underneath option routes to backs and quick guys against LB's. Take a shot every 10 plays downfield on the outside against 1 on 1 coverage.

Bottom line, it's the defense , not the offense, that needs to step up until Romo gets back. They will be full strength after the bye. They need to show that they are a championship defense and not just an average defense.

that's what also see the giants winning the division

I just don't think we have seen enough of the Giants to suggest that they can win 10 just because they beat the Bills playing with no heart and without their two best offensive players (I watched that game... was so frustrating wanting the Bills to win and seeing the Bills not care) and the Commanders who just plain suck. They have another horrible team this week so not much can be said if they win again, but a lot could be said if they lose.

I think were going to lose too many. If we couldve pulled out just one of the last 2 games, I thought we would have a shot....beat the bucs, maybe the eagles....but even that was a stretch......

we dropped them both! And this isnt a very good football team. Reminds me of the 8-8 teams....,,,,, i keep waitng for them to turn it on and look like last years team. I think they are trying, but they just cant seem to do it. We are going to lose the next 4-5 games. that will put us with 6 or 7 losses....

even with Romo. I don't think this team is as good as it was last year. Penalties, turnovers, missed assignments, etc etc. They just might end up folding after NE and Seattle embarrass them.

And if we don't start Cassel next week, then....Why aren't we??
