Eagles OT Lane Johnson retires

[Cowboys5217]

He was a great player. I wish him well.

In other words: "After four games, I see that we have no chance of going to another Super Bowl and our offense isn't any better than last year's, so I'm out."

[cald0d30s0]

Elite player, wish him the best.

[Kevinicus]

Wish him well in life and dealing with whatever issues he's facing. Glad the Eagles are weaker and will continue to struggle this year.

[CWR]

...with all the problems Eagles are having. He probably thought why bother, I'm done.

The nfc east has never been more inviting.

[JayFord]

Bye

First ballot hall of famer

But due to eagles? Bye

See you in Canton

[Stash]

Huge loss for the Eagles, among many.

The Eagles Super Bowl team is done.

The NFC East is now wide open.

[Acceptablename]

Great player glad he's retired

[irishline]

Definitely HOF. Maybe first ballot. Although id have to check the list of first ballot HOF OTs to compare.

Not saying Lane is or isn't worthy, but ex-Dallas Cowboy (haha) Forrest Gregg is the only primary right tackle to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Edit: As others have said with the suspensions (forgot about those), probably not first ballot, but definitely will get in. The question is, how long does he wait?

[plymkr]

Wow! Didn’t see that coming. Great player. He mentioned mental health in his post. I hope he’s alright. I’m glad he’s prioritizing his mental health because we don’t need any tragedies like last year. So good on him. I wish him the best of luck.

As far as football goes this does hurt the Eagles. With their injuries the division may be more open than I thought it was 2 weeks ago, or even last week at this time.

[DUO_CORE]

Steele for Jalen Carter and pics!

[ghst187]

Happy for him and happy the eagles got worse

[MarcusRock]

His two suspensions for PEDs will eliminate first ballot. He even said that he didn’t deserve to be in the HOF because of the suspensions.

He deserves to be in but he’ll have to wait.

Oh wow, didn't even remember that.

[fivetwos]

What a crazy draft with the two tackles at the top and how it actually worked out.

[BoyzBlaster]

Wow. Truly amazing player. I wish him well. Eagles were already toast offensively this just makes it worse.

[erod]

Great Sooner right there.

He should have retired years ago. He'll likely not get around very well in a short few years.

“He didn’t want to face LT Overton.” —stilltheguru

[KingCorcoran]

Unlike a lot of their fans it seems… A lot of them aren’t happy as they feel he’s abandoning a sinking ship lol

Every team has to replace veteran players. Eagles fans know better than most even the greatest ones call it quits at some point. Their greats seem to stay a long time. They’ve had their success. Now it’s time to go down for awhile. It will be interesting to see who their next head coach is.

They’re headed for, perhaps, a top ten draft pick. Two 1st rounders in 2028. If their GM is such a genius he’ll have them in the Super Bowl mix soon enough. I have sympathy for Bills fans, and Lions fans. Not Eagles fans. Imagine being a Chargers fan today. Now they’ve been sold a phony bill of goods.

[slick325]

Great player. Will be tough to replace for sure.

Hall of fame player at some point for sure.

[GrouchySmurf]

Legendary player.

Gotta enjoy life outside of the game too.
