Eagles OT Lane Johnson retires

He was an Eagle, but I have to give him credit. He was one of the best offensive tackles to ever play football. The Eagles will miss him. I thought it was bad for teh Eagles when Kelce retired, and it was. But this loss is really going to hurt. There is talk that the LG, Dickerson, is only a shell of himself as well.

I have been hearing talking heads speak about Johnson having mental health issues. He mentioned this twice in his retirement announcement. I don't know what that is about but I sincerely hope he finds peace in his life. I hope this does not turn out to be another Mark Tuinei situation.
That and he had the benefit of having absolute studs already lined up next to him. Made him look better than he actually was. Then yes, he turned into a special player.

He's not wrong. Seems like more than meets the eye is going on, festering in Philly. Like a mutiny?
Johnson has talked about his mental health before.

He missed games a few years ago due to depression and anxiety. He did several interviews about it at the time and advocates for mental health

His retirement isn’t a reaction to anything good on in Philly, although losing a longtime leader certainly doesn’t help the rest of them who are still there.

He only had two years of o-line play when he was drafted. I remember that draft. Chip Kelly liked Dion Jordan and was going to draft him but Miami traded up and took him. Johnson fell into Kelly's lap. Johnson gave up ten sacks his rookie year. Then Jeff Stoutland got ahold of him. The rest is NFL history.

Your comment made me look up the Eagles 2013 line. Jason Peters, Evan Mathis, Jason Kelce, Todd Herremans, Lane Johnson. Geez, that's a top 3 line at worse today.

Stephen A is right, and it pains me to no end to agree with him. If they are undefeated, this doesn't happen. I think many players on that team are wanting gone and feel like they are in a bad situation. I think it's a combination of Siriani and not knowing who's actually in charge. They don't wanna play for the guy. He's a doofus.

Exactly. My God that 2013 line was a brick wall. I knew he had the luxury his first couple years , lining up next to some special players but dang.

I don't know. My home in South Jersey is a few miles from Johnson's house and had have a few conversations with him, and I know a fair number of former Eagle players (even coached Trotter's and Runyan's kids) tied into the team. From what I understand he's been mulling this for a few years, and those mental health issues are real.

Hey that's cool that you know these dudes. Yes I'm sure his mental health issues are legit. Who am I to question ones headspace. What I am saying is Siriani doesn't appear to be inspiring anyone. Remember the positivity Bunny last year? I mean, yikes. That alone was a fireable offense. Lol

Anxiety is such an underrated powerful force. Anxiety took down a 6’5 315+ pound Hall of Famer.

Yes!! Anyone down playing this is not facing the facts. They just lost a huge piece. Again it couldn’t happen to a nicer team. I just hope whatever Lane’s mental health issues are he gets healthy.
Lane Johnson to them was Tyron Smith and Sean Lee to us when they were here.
When they missed games, we lost a lot more games than normal.
