Eagles release CB Darius Slay

and yet we will likely keep trotting out Hooker and Wilson. Neither of whom are worth their contracts. But hey, we like our guys.

I see how this goes

We sign him “oh wow an aging vet we need to get younger he’s on the decline”

Another team signs him “Jerry and Son suck we could’ve gotten a CB in his prime who hasn’t let up a touchdown in 30 years smh another failed season”
The right take is that this is proof that the Eagles make moves for now and worry about later, later.

And it's paying off for them.

Roseman drafted two CBs last draft that balled out as rookies. That allows them to make this move.

They will probably draft another CB early in this draft as well.
This draft is loaded with fast DBs. There must of been 10 that ran in 4.38 range.

Despite his age (34), Slay can still offer a contender quality depth on the cheap.

Great situation for PHI and not a totally terrible situation for Slay

I could see them bringing him back. I think DeJean stays at the nickel so they need a starter opposite Mitchell. If they aren’t sold on Ringo they could bring back Slay on a one year deal. He’s said he only wants to play one more year.

Possible they can wait until after the draft. Sign him if still available so Philly does not get a comp pick. And for less money.
Pretty sure the Eagles would not be eligible for a comp pick for Slay. This cut was long foreseen and even Slay knew it was coming. He’s not a free agent at the end of a contract, so no comp pick.

This is why you preserve your pie.

You won't see us cutting any cornerbacks.

Be grateful.
