Eagles tie Dallas in championships. I'm disgusted

It won't be long before they look back at us with the number of teams we had in the league back in the last century when we were good...and say "sure, they won some trophies back in the 1900's, but they only had 28 teams

And the Eagles apparently were not NFL champions until 1948. They had to beat some team in a championship game. I don’t know who, don’t care. But if ancient history doesn’t count then Cowboys fans have nothing to brag about.
They can brag about it, nobody said they couldn't but so can the 48 and 49 Browns because they were also the champions in their league and in 1950 won the NFL championship in their 1st season.

No offense to the 48 & 49 Browns, but the Birmingham Americans were champions in their league in 74. The NFL doesn’t equate the AAFC champion or WFL champion to NFL champion. They don’t equate the AFL champion to their champion until the Super Bowl was initiated.

You make a great point and I agree with most of it.
However, up until the super bowls there were other leagues. So they can say they were league Champs but not world Champs.
Trust me, had the Cleveland Browns been in the NFL in the mid 40s instead of the 1950 season the eagles probably wouldn't have won in 48 and 49. The Browns were that good at that time.
The NFL was just the football league that financially survived over the others. That didn't make their teams better though.
Am I making sense?
You're absolutely right about the Browns. I've been watching condensed games of those championships. What I found funny was they called Jim Brown Jimmy Brown during games.

No. They recognize the NFL champion back to 1920, and recognized the Super Bowl winner as the NFL champion starting with the first Super Bowl.
They hold them at the same value as a conference championship. I don’t have anything to do with how the NFL values them.

A Championship is a Championship. What difference does it make what they call it?

Trust me....it's just a matter of time before the NFL figures out a way to make more money renaming the championship game once again (probably once they finally put a team in Europe). Do you want our 5 championships to stop counting once that happens?

Well considering Philly has been in the NFL since 1933 and just now has as many Championships/SB as Cowboys

1st, I want to make a correction, I meant the AAFC All American Football Conference not the AAFL. Typo on my part.

I understand that but the Browns were the best team in America those years. The eagles weren't. Cleveland won all 4 championships in the AAFC then merged with the NFL and won the NFL championship.
1974 WFL is not comparable to the AAFC in the 40s. The AAFC was comparable to the NFL. They just didn't have the same money but they had players.

They were probably one of the best football teams in their day. They also played a more modern game compared to the NFL at the time.
I normally wouldn't come out and say a team from a by gone league was better than an NFL team but if people looked at the objectively they would agree.

What took me a bit by surprise was how often they passed the ball. Downfield too.

One odd rule difference that I've heard about, but just now seeing. If a runner is tackled but gets back up in one motion, he's allowed to continue running. Or if you tackle a player from behind, they don't spot the ball where he is down, but where he ends up. The refs give the player all forward momentum.

The Browns offense under, Paul Brown, was the predecessor to the west coast offense. In fact, when Paul Brown left the Browns and went to Cincinnati one of his assistant coaches was Bill Walsh. That who taught him the west coast offense.

I can't even be mad when their people build the right way and our people do not.

lol. So because they renamed the trophy everything before then doesn’t count?
They didnt rename it, it was when the 2 leagues merged to form the current league...I dont care that fans of teams bring this up, but when next to todays current NFL that is the equation of the NFC/AFC championship game not the superbowl..It was named that because the champions of the 2 leagues played each other. Have the Eagles won more than 2 championships for sure, have they won more than 2 superbowls..NO not even by stretching your imagination...

There were much fewer teams because the NFL and AFL had not merged and there had not been all the expansion.
So yes , I feel championships prior to the SB should not be included.

This is the type of trolling that the mods need to clean up. It's ridiculous at this point. If Eagles fans, even minutes after a SB win, are so obsessed with the Cowboys that they can't wait to run over here and post, who cares. But to let them over and over come on here and start threads like this with this veiled BS is just weak
