They made some weird choices. Swanson making it, for one. Rod Smith made no sense to me unless it's purely for STs.
This one for sure. My own view of him on special teams was admittedly limited to the Rams game, but he looked like he had no clue out there to me. Neither run-blocking as a fullback, or playing special teams. He had no idea where to go or who to block. And then he spent weeks on the shelf, and somehow makes the team? A head scratcher for me.
And I personally expect the team to realize their mistake, and make moves to drop one or both of these fullbacks at a point that's too late to make a difference.
With Keith Smith, at least you know they think he can play LB, too, so between that and FB and Teams he makes sense.
More than Rod Smith for sure. But I don't know why the couldn't just sign one that could play special teams and fullback, they do exist. Guys like Jerome Felton and James Casey would be much better options than either guy we kept.
They must think with him and Wiber having position flex they have the luxury of keeping a couple of players they really like at positions where we have an abundance of talent. There were definitely some head-scratchers going on.
Instead I see 'gimmick players'. Guys like Dunbar and Whitehead that do one thing well while lacking in all the rest. Those are luxuries stacked team can keep, not one with as many needs as I feel this one has.
