Earl Thomas - is he done?

Minus the drama, he might be a good one year rental. Jerry, might need to also sign his handler (His wife).

i wouldnt be opposed to a one or 2 year low risk deal.
I'd do that, if it was an affordable deal. No more than 2 or 3 million a year. No signing bonus so if he has a psychotic breakdown we can cut him with mo penalty.

Thomas is probably going to make the HOF as we was on the All-Decade team which is a golden ticket.

I just don't think he's got the desire left.

We are rumored to be in on Sherman. If we bring him and his leadership/history of holding ET accountable in the secondary then I’m all for it. ET alone as the vet amongst all our young guys scares me.
It scares me even more knowing that the DBs would be led by two slow, declining players at the end of their careers.

For a HOF-caliber Safety, it seems like his career might be done...

Any chance we can get him for like a 1 year, $1mn deal?

Probably easy for us to get him if we want him. The league rejected him last year. Now we have the coach he shared two All Pro selections and two Super Bowls with.

No way he is going to play for that. He's clearly largely motivated by money at this point. Even on a "prove it" deal. Though rehabilitating his image would be of large value to him, I doubt he is of the mindset to appreciate it much.

The overwhelming majority of his pay should be based on gameday roster bonus checks. We should make a fair offer based on the performance we expect. Have play time and Pro Bowl bonuses. Pay him for *delivering* value.

In one sense, ET is *exactly* the kind of free agent we love taking. A player out of the league for a year who costs nothing in terms of comp picks, but has enough skill that it's likely he has a good season and can be churned for a decent comp pick. That's been a clear strategy for years.

Sad ending. Wonder if he still makes the cut for the HOF

One benefit of him coming back and rehabilitating his image is making it more likely he is a first ballot HOFer. I doubt he makes that now.

Surprisingly to me, Earl is a dozen players down the list of the highest players not yet in the HOF on Pro Football Reference's HOF monitor. But he's well above John Lynch who just made it at S, and the players above Earl are either very old timers or look mainly to be CBs. Darren Sharper at S is just a shade above Earl. I think Earl is being hurt in the rankings by playing a few years less than the others. Per years played, he was more dominant than most of the players above him.
Earl could use another season or two to rehabilitate his image and push him up the rankings. He made the Pro Bowl playing out of position at SS with the Ravens. I see no reason he couldn't make another, or two, at FS here, back with Quinn.

It's been too long since an Earl thread. Yeah it's hard to imagine him back, but if its going to happen it would probably be with Quinn and the Cowboys. We love projects and many seem to work out at least for a season or two.

He would need to take accountability and address his team. "Hey I know you heard things, I take accountability I was in a bad place, but after a year off I'm a changed man and ready to war with you boys." If he said that and avoided clashes I think players would move forward with him.

Earl Thomas has had mental and emotional issues lately that other teams don't want to mess with. I think the Cowboys are one of them. :omg:

It must be really bad when teams like the Cowboys and organizations who like to take on these players didn't do it. One of the biggest mysteries to me is how they went from almost trading for Thomas to not wanting him at all.

I don't know if he's done(probably so) but he won't ever be a Cowboy in the NFL.

Yea, looks like ET has burned all his bridges behind him and now all he has left is his rep. Even though you might squeeze another year or two out of him, looks like teams not willing to bring him in at this point. Dallas could have had him several years ago, but too late now.

Sign him after game 1, IF they still need a S. Then his pay is not guaranteed if they release him.
Go into TC with the players they will have, then go from there. Hopefully they finds some S's, and Thomas is not needed.

Because of the concerning character-issues Earl Thomas has been displaying, I doubt he will be able to continue his career in NFL.
who would want that kind of on egg-shell cancer distraction on their team ? Ravens nor Texans players wanted nothing to do with Earl,
and I feel several other teams are feeling the same way. And then add his current age to that.

Frankly Earl seems to need more professional mental help than he does another NFL roster.
it's about saving his life than his NFL career. I dearly hope it's more directed in that area.
