They were green together. If the Cowboys move on him then I will think Richard is pushing for it but they could have moved on him before, just give up the 2nd.

And Thomas has played behind a front 7 that is a hell of a lot better than Dallas has fielded all the time he's been in SEA. I would not expect to have the near the same D they had when they were all still together.

This is the Dallas' chance. The Seahawks are staring at the possibility of not having Thomas and not getting anything for him in return. The Cowboys can offer a 3rd and a 6th round pick for him (for example).

To me, his Texas roots and the presence of Kris Richard have made this trade plausible all offseason. The Cowboys have addressed every single hole on this roster except safety. And Thomas isn't just any aging veteran. He's still just 29 and one of the best safeties in the game today.

The Seahawks are going to want to trade him.

Seattle offered him to us for a 2nd, we almost did it but Connor Williams fell to us. We offered a 3rd. So the two sides have been close to a trade already, and that was before a holdout.

Not saying he ends up in Dallas, but it’s silly to think it’s not a definite possibility.

I have a trade package: Dallas sends a 2019 third round pick and a 2020 sixth round pick to Seattle.

In exchange they get Earl Thomas, a 2019 fourth round pick, and a 2020 seventh round pick.

That way they get Thomas without giving up picks; and Seattle gets to jump up a round in the next two drafts for their trouble.

Playing time can easily remain at the same point in the field, with conditioning and expert recognition...which he possesses.

Besides, age doesn't affect all athletes on a standard bell curve. That still has to be measured individually...and our scouts do their homework.

He is not going to improve his recognition skills appreciably in year 9 while his quickness and speed have only one way to go. It is unusual for athletes to plateau physically particularly when it comes to speed and quickness.

The peak and then trough. The thing is that ET already is regressed from the All Pro form he showed early in his career. He has not been all pro in 3 years. His last 2 years were evidence of a decline.

I get that he still has tread on the tire but he is trending the wrong way and costs WAY too much. I'd give him $6m AAV and go up to 7 not the $10m he is asking for Throw in the significant draft pick it takes for the 1 year rental and no thanks that much more.

definitely not hes trying to steal money IMO..he wants his big payday already in his twilight and starting to have injury questions.. hes got maybe 3 yrs left maybe one big ET type season in him..the thought of having him way far exceeds reality..hes not the old ET in his prime and not worth the contract he wants and the trade picks the seahawks would want..3 yrs ago I would have done this not now stop with the nonsense you think jerry and Stephen would give up a huge contract and draft picks for an ageing player..someone like Boston or two other left would be cheaper options with enough talent to pass ON ET..

Nonsense? I did not say sign him, as my comment basically saying people would pull a Dez, meaning he will not live up to any huge contract, and fans will start bagging on him. Rather rich or wrong, our fans always want to whine about its own players.

I do not want ET at a high price tag and give up too high of any picks.
If a low round low cap hit incentive laden contract, then yes, but it has to be cap and draft pick friendly for us. What that this, I am not sure of. Basically I would rather roll with who we have and see what they look like in TC first.

In baseball maybe. NFL safeties over the past 8 years have started to decline at age 28. it is what it is.

You are correct, but here are the Cowboys' safeties: Xavier Woods, Jeff Heath, Kavon Frazier, Marqueston Huff, Jameill Showers, and Tyree Robinson.

Dallas had added talent at DL, LB, and CB in recent seasons. I like the potential of Woods and Frazier, but Earl Thomas could be the last piece on defense. And if they trade for him now, they won't have to get into a free agent bidding war next year.

I'd rather sign one of the FA S that are still available to a one year lucrative deal than pay a draft pick and huge money to ET.. Then resign ET next year.

Claims a right to be taken care of with a new contract because of past production.

He doesn't appear to understand that contracts are about future performance, not past performance.

One red flag for a potential signing.

I can see us playing Jaylon like an in the box safety. When we go "nickel". Bring in a CB, take out the SS. Jaylon's special talent was having the speed and agility to cover TEs and RBs in man coverage. Let LVE and Lee play zone, and Jaylon take that man coverage role over the TE. Or blitz. Use his athleticism as a weapon.

Keep the best players on the field. Xavier is a pet cat of mine, but he just isn't one of our best players, particularly when compared to our LBs. When we need a SS in our base to go with our LBs, put him in. But keep Jaylon, LVE, and Lee on the field
