Earl Thomas update

Id pull the trigger for a 4th right now to get the deal done but at the halfway point of Training camp on I would only go with a 6th or less

sign him up for a 3 year deal with a team option 4th and see how it goes

The last time I cared about Earl Thomas

I wish Jerry would just come out and put to rest all this ET talk.

Why would SEA trade him for anything less than a 3? The likely comp pick next year.

What if they sign someone of "equal" value and offsets their pick?

You do this without realizing they will prbly dip into FA and if they decide to pluck a nice Olinemen/offensive weapon that will offset the ET signing... this will be a guaranteed pick and get rid of a player who misses training camp and actual games

I really don't understand why the Seahawks are being so stubborn. They clearly don't have him in their long term plans. He is going to be a free agent after this year. Why wouldn't they just unload him for whatever they can get?

Maybe they think they can win a SB this year? Maybe they think someone will give in to their demands. Not very smart? *******s? So many possibilities.

It goes by salary. So they’d have to sign a pretty big free agent to offset the $10-13 million per year ET would sign for.

The Seahawks could hang on to him, thinking the compensation they get, when he signs as a free agent could be as high as a 3rd round choice, and at minimum, probably would be a 4th round choice (depending on what he signs for). Why wouldn't they hold onto him? They would get this season, which could very well be his best remaining season as a professional, and a pick.

The Cowboys drafted Dak Prescott with compensation from free agents who left, other teams recognize the value of those choices as well.

That doesn't help us signing him as FA next year (assuming we don't trade for him this year) because sitting out just extends his rights another year.

Except he won't sit out the whole year. He'll come back in time to get his accrued season.

Why would Jerry do that? I bet he loves that fans, Earl and the media keep bringing up trade possibilities because it generates more interest surrounding the Cowboys.

Which is why he'd sit out until he has to return to finish the final year of his contact.

I'm not sure but I believe he could sit out about a month of the season first.

I *think* he would have to report before the 6th to last game

Duane Brown - T - Seahawks
Seahawks signed LT Duane Brown to a a three-year, $36.5 million extension.

Brown was in the final year of his contract after coming over from Houston last year. Locking him up gives the Seahawks a steady blindside presence on an offensive line that's graded near the bottom of the league. Brown is now signed through his age-35 season and should finish his career in Seattle. The extension is a slap to Earl Thomas, who now looks destined for a preseason trade.

They wouldn't get the pick next year unless it was a trade. If they are holding out to just get a comp pick than they have to wait 2 years before they get it. On top of that it might just be a 4th or 5th comp pick and not a 3rd

No he only has to report with 6 games left. He can hold out up to 10 games

If next to last means one before the last then i believe "6th to last" means six before the end... in this case meaning game 11.

I could be wrong in his intention, but it is a convoluted way of saying the exact same thing you just said.

I believe he can sit out until the tenth game or something like that without it hurting his FA eligibility. If someone can chime in to verify or correct me.
All bets are off after November 13:
Prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, deadline for clubs to sign their unrestricted free agents to whom the “May 8 Tender” was made. If still unsigned after this date, such players are prohibited from playing in the NFL in 2018.

So, what are you saying? We get Thomas threads until then?
