I'm just another fan, I'm not a scout but this WR caught my eye, he was on the ESPN drills with Vince Young, he is smaller receiver, but guys he was blazing fast, it impressed me, I just can't see usieng 18 on an o-lineman, its not the usual way in the NFL these days, it will be one of the other holes..

Not sure I understand "I just can't see using 18 on an o-lineman, its not the usual way in the NFL these days", teams do it every year and the line is just as important in today’s football as is always has been. They may not get the lime light but they clearly are the big reason the star players do get their lime light

If Williams fell to us at #18, great - versitile player,FS and backup corner. If hes gone (as he should be) either OT or LB. Now, getting into this "value" thing,at #18, Carpenter who is perfect for us or one of the OTs McNeil or Justice - are they a "value" pick at where we are? I think so. If we try and trade down, I think we would lose either of those players to the teams selecting right behind us. Thoughts?

I'd be shocked to see Parcells draft a T in the first round. I wouldn't be shocked to see Parcells draft a LB or WR, because Parcells has drafted 4 LB'rs and 2 WR's in the 1st round, yet never a pure Tackle.

I say he trades down.

If Santonio Holmes is still there at 18. Dallas will take him and get their linebacker in the 2nd round.

The debate going on here is why this draft is going to be so interesting. The FA period, the end of the CBA, the characteristics of this draft (supposedly weak in OL and WR's), an assessment of our needs (opinions do vary on this) and how players coming back form injury are going to perform all play into a pretty complex dance. Last year (supposedly) our needs were broader and the draft deeper. It should be an interesting ride between now and draft day.

In fact how a certain young man does in Europe may influence what the Cowboys do on draft day.

1st year, defense. 2nd year, offense. 3rd year, defense. 4th year...

Defense needs time to grow, as is. If anything we can grab someone in round 2 for depth. Offensive line is easier to aquire via free agency. Santana Holmes at #18 sounds about right. Which I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bill uses such a pick as leverage to stop Jerry from doing what we all dread he will do, signing one Terrell Owens.

I just am getting a peculiar feeling he could end up being much like Brandon Browner last year, an underclassmen who gets a great deal of hype early then falls like a rock late in the process.

I agree.

W/ his youth, he needs to run a good 40 or I can see him falling into the 2nd.

Carpenter at this point is a late 1st, early 2nd. If his physical turns out fine and has a good combine, then you'll see him climb the boards to about the mid 1st mark.

I'm hoping that these guys perform less than what people expect at the combines so we can trade down and have both! Wishful thinking, but could happen...
