Over the years, I’ve had to train myself to naturally dismiss about 80 percent of the crazy stuff that is either emailed or called in on the radio shows. Not saying there aren’t some good ideas, but it seems like every time a high-profile player is available – for whatever the reason – he gets linked to the Cowboys as a possible fit.

However, in the case of Vince Young, I think the Cowboys should strongly consider signing him.

Obviously, they just showed they have a need for a third quarterback. Apparently Nick Stephens and Dalton Williams aren’t cutting it.

1.) With Tony Romo out and Kyle Orton looking just OK, it’s starting to be apparent another quarterback is needed here.

So is Vince the best one out there? As a pure passer, no way. Byron Leftwich throws it better. Matt Leinert does as well.

But the Cowboys need to make a decision right now – can they carry three quarterbacks on the roster this year? Do they want to?

If the answers are yes, then Vince Young makes the most sense.

I just dont see it, with this kind of a question, you really have to back it up with positive facts, and in this case they dont outweigh the negatives or the return on the money being spent.

You will have to re teach him a lot of things, you will have to have him guarded from himself off the field. The list could go on and on.

The first question is, should the team carry 3 qbs and i say no, either go deep with what you have or go home, theres no prize after first.

I would say, it would not hurt, to bring him in as a camp body. If Orton looks bad, then you keep 3. Dallas, does not want to get in the same situation they got them selves into with Brad Johnson.

Off the field issues have always been overrated with VY.

okay, if orton looks bad, still run two, if VY can play better, let him ride it. But its gotta pay off, can you guarantee VY is worth the dollar?

From my perspective, I think they need somebody as a #3 if only to get them through training camp. The two young QBs they have currently are not playing well...if going by some media tweets. And if they can't perform well enough for the Cowboys to practice efficiently on offense, then they need to bring somebody in.

It could be Young or somebody, but they clearly need somebody.

Not really interested in Young but would have no issue with him going to camp and proving himself.

Having him for the scout team is actually a pretty fair point, though, given who he'd be scouting this season...

Taking Romo off the field for a 2 point conversion might be the worst idea I've heard in a long time. First off, if you're going for two it's likely a very high stakes and high pressure situation, so you want your best players in. Beyond that I don't need to see Young running into our offensive linemen and getting stood up, or skipping a slant route off Dez Bryant's cleats.

The trick to fixing our short yardage offense is putting better players on the offensive line, not something you do with gimmicks and scheme.

a young QB who's had success in the league and would only be asked to keep the bench warm. Am I missing something or why wouldn't this atleast be an option?

840K is the 2013 7th year veteran minimum salary. I think we can find someone to throw on the practice squad and spend those cap dollars elsewhere if injuries start to pile up.

No cap guru, but I don't think he'd count the full $840k against the cap. They have some sort of thing where he should only count around $500k. And if there's no signing bonus or at least a very small one, then he doesn't get paid until the 1st game of the season.

Release him in final cuts, avoid the salary, bring him back after the first week if he's avail, and his cap number is not guaranteed.

That is the only point he has that makes any sense. Butt, still, is that enough reason to bring the guy in and make him the #3?

Yeah, thats too rich. I don't want the guy, anyway, only saying that he actually would be a good physical fit on the scout team. We could probably accomplish the same thing with a WR who played QB in high school, though, if we've got one of those on the roster.

For camp. I just don't know if it's worth the media storm it will create. They could use a quiet camp. But they do need some competent camp qbs. What's Leinart doing?

That's kind of how I feel too. Won't cost much to kick some tires especially with the qb. play being reported out of VR early on as being shaky at best. So yea, bring VY onboard.
