We did not have to release Cooper to get under the cap. Plenty of other things could have been done.

They could have restructured and push money down the road that would have been about it. Dallas was 21.2 mill over the cap. Cowboys did not do this because they did not like him they were over the cap and you can't keep everyone. Gallup was signed contract paying half of what Cooper was getting Washington on a 1 year deal for 1.5 mill put the WR position at 12 mill instead of 22 mill Cooper was getting. I like Cooper but in the end something had to give. I said at the end of 2021 season Cowboys would keep either Gallup or Cooper but would not keep both

I hear you, supposedly the Cowboys wanted Chubb as well. Do you know what 5th round pick between Clark and Bland was the trade for Amari? I bet with the play of those two in the second half of the season, we won’t regret trading Cooper.

I believe that they drafted Matt Waletsko with that pick.

Let me get this straight. We only got a 5th rounder for Cooper...and we were told that was the best you should expect because someone else was taking on his 20m cap hit....but 8 games into the season we were open to giving up a 1st day pick and take on a similar cap hit to get a WR?

Yeah. Every bit as TERRIBLE as it sounds.

Just listening to Hangin' with the Boys. He says at 4.15 mark that it would have taken a first to land him.

Sound's very much like we were prepared to give this up.

I'm speechless!
We can't afford him please move on from fantasy land......

I like Cooks. But not for a first. Not for a 2nd either. A 4th at best. I'm not saying he isn't worth more, but if the Cowboys really want a WR, just pay OBJ. We don't lose any picks. Besides that, does anyone think Cooks or OBJ is going to transform our offense? Keep the picks, you might get someone good.

Honestly someday we need to make a list called "30 years of brilliant football moves" staring the Jerry and son.

I very much hope he’s wrong about that.

But even if it was just a second round pick, it still makes the Jones boys look like idiots.

Give away Amari Cooper for nothing and then invest another premium pick on yet another big-money receiver to fill the void that THEY CREATED.

You should get a zillion likes for this. They can't separate emotion from business when it comes to players. They cater to players they like or make irrational decisions to the detriment of the team concerning those they don't.

Timing is everything. Trading Cooper when they did, and the way they trashed him before the trade, they were bound to get the lowest value possible for him. It was a huge mistake. Trading him mid season right before the trade deadline gets maximum value. That's why the Texans could ask for a 1st for Cooks. We should be happy the Cowboys didn't make this deal. Even offering a 3rd for him is a joke.

They made the same mistake with La'el Collins. Forget about how you feel about Collins and all the fat and lazy talk. You don't tell the team you want to trade him to, "oh by the way, he is fat and lazy". Let them think they are getting a quality RT. When you sell your used car do you tell the perspective buyer about all the problems you have had with it? Collins would have had value if they kept him through training camp and looked to trade him before the season started. Wait for a team to lose a OT to injury then call them. The Cowboys could have made it look like they had two starting RTs and were reluctantly willing to unload one.

The Cowboys have made some good trades now and again, but since Jimmy left, mostly they get fleeced on trades going all the way back to Joey Galloway.

The Cowboys were desperate to unload Cooper and Collins and telegraphed that to the rest of the league. That's why they got fleeced. Never look desperate when you are trying to make a deal.

Bears did one last screw you by setting the market at 2nd round for a mediocre talent like Claypool.
If they thought Claypool would help, I would have given up the 2nd and not looked back. Is that an overpay? Maybe. But we need to be in win this year mode with this defense. Hoarding draft picks does nothing right now. Sometimes you have to overpay.

That I agree with, Cowboys only getting a 5th was poor on the Cowboys part
