Let me get this straight. We only got a 5th rounder for Cooper...and we were told that was the best you should expect because someone else was taking on his 20m cap hit....but 8 games into the season we were open to giving up a 1st day pick and take on a similar cap hit to get a WR?

No.
The way I took it, They wanted a 1st round pick for Cooks and Jerry said no. but would offer a 3rd conditional to a 2nd.
But yeah, still dumb in hindsight with the entire Cooper fiasco. But that just proves there was more to it, than a salary dump at the time.

However, it is done and over with. Time to move on and just improve as they go.

I very much hope he’s wrong about that.

But even if it was just a second round pick, it still makes the Jones boys look like idiots.

Give away Amari Cooper for nothing and then invest another premium pick on yet another big-money receiver to fill the void that THEY CREATED.

Sometimes they do learn from mistakes of the past. Joey Galloway and Roy Williams.
I do believe this is why the FO has become more risk averse when it comes to making these trades.

The Cooper trade a few years ago has hardened them even more so. In the end, he wasn’t their type of “guy”. Kind of solidifies their philosophy.

Timing is everything. Trading Cooper when they did, and the way they trashed him before the trade, they were bound to get the lowest value possible for him. It was a huge mistake. Trading him mid season right before the trade deadline gets maximum value. That's why the Texans could ask for a 1st for Cooks. We should be happy the Cowboys didn't make this deal. Even offering a 3rd for him is a joke

What mid-season? 2022?

I wasn't terribly crazy about bringing Amari back but I agree with you. I just don't get it.

It was a spite thing first and foremost, a way to bail out a terrible cap manager second.

But the Joneses screwed their own team in the process and weakened what could be a Super Bowl contender.

Eatman said he thinks it would have taken a first round pick. He had no inside information on whether that was true. He was just guessing.

Misleading thread.

He may well have inside information; he wouldn't reveal that if he had. I've listened to him for 20+ years, he tends to hint at thinks when he speaks.

Lost in all of this angst is the reality that both the Cowboys and the Texans are not exactly the beacons of hope when it comes to quality GM decisions. As much as we constantly rue the Jones family, the Texans are a far bigger train wreck. I can totally see their brain trust holding out for a first round pick, only to be left with air and now they have a receiver that has no desire to be there and is "away from the team" as they prepare for a game tonight. Will he even play for them again?

This is the GM equivalent of a Browns/Jags game from the last decade. It's just movable force meets stoppable object. No wonder they couldn't get out of their own way to do a deal.

You should get a zillion likes for this. They can't separate emotion from business when it comes to players. They cater to players they like or make irrational decisions to the detriment of the team concerning those they don't.

Likewise. You’ve summed it up perfectly. And more succinctly than I.

In todays world, you don’t need to be smart.

Just infinite amounts of money lol

It reminds me of royalty in years past. In a position where you’re not replaced no matter how bad a job you do. Certainly the case for Little Enos. His only qualification is that he’s the owner’s kid. Anyone else would have fired such incompetence, but when you’re the ‘prince’, you’re free from accountability.

Just listening to Hangin' with the Boys. He says at 4.15 mark that it would have taken a first to land him.

Sound's very much like we were prepared to give this up.

I'm speechless!

This, the only first I would have given up would have been for Brown and Only Brown. Their is not one DL better than him coming out in the next draft period.

Not really the same, CLE takes over the remaining Guarantees that Dallas had on Coopers contract, Dallas was trying to make Houston to pay part of or all of the 18M in Guarantees Cooks had for next year.

:laugh::eek::eek::eek::eek: It’s funny to me that all the talking head shows are freaking out over the Cowboys not trading for an average receiver from a bad team.

I think he's above average and has had a nice career, but at best he's a good #2. There's a reason he keeps getting passed between teams.

He didn't reveal anything. They were talking about the Claypool trade and would you have given up a 2 and a 5 for Cooks. He said I think it would have taken a 1st. There's no inside info there. He's merely thinking out loud.

4 minute mark. No scoop. Just an opinion.

you are NOT straight

reason the deal failed is because they were UNWILLING to do any of that , bet they offered a 3rd maybe a 2 and only wanted to pay half his salary. Deal fell tough because they were Unwilling to do that scenario you do not have straight.
they kicked the tires, tired rolled off, move on..
