I've seen you write off much much better players in the past. Strange.

You didn't hear?... we're trading up to the 1st pick and drafting Wentz... he's going to play Safety until Romo gets injured again...
then Romo will retire midseason... Jerry will fire Garrett against Stephen's wishes... Romo becomes HC... Wentz remains at Safety
and becomes the starting QB... he promptly takes Dallas to the Super Bowl... winning 72-0...gets voted SB MVP.

Risen Star performs at the halftime show and everyone will be talking about his controversial act the next day....lol...j/k

In all honesty...Have you ever seen a safety have success when a team plays a zone under w/ the single high safety over the top? All Wrs do is run past the CBs and flood the zone. ...Leaving the FS in no mans land. No one can reasonably expect a DB to cover sideline to sideline. It's a bad scheme....and I blame the coaches for putting the players in that kind of situation.

Its truly terrible. I honestly don't see how anyone in the secondary can succeed in this scheme. All its good for is not getting beat deep.

I'd even argue against that (getting beat deep)...since Wilcox loves to cheat towards the line of scrimmage and has no concept of being a FS....Rule #1. You are the last line of defense. You are as deep as anyone on the field. Never let any WR get behind you. That's football 101 type stuff any college kid knows....or @ least should know...

Linebackers are what should hold a defense together. They should be punishers on the run; a pain to a quarterback in a rush; and integrated in a full pass defense. A linebacker coach involved in seeing to the mesh between the secondary and linebackers is pretty smart.

I get what your trying to say....but I have noticed something in the last couple years when breaking down tape....the traditional 4-3 defense is getting broken down by spread offenses.....forcing defenses to go to nickle and dime packages more often. The face of what we usally think of what a LBer should be is changing. The days of seeing 3 LBers on the field in a 4-3 defense...is quickly fading...I'm afraid. :(

Carolina didn't get the memo...and even today, one still has to build upon what he does have to become a winner.

Carolina...Prime example. Why do you think they drafted Shaq Thompson? He was a SS @ Washington. He's that new tweener hybrid LBer than is in vogue in the league. There are many names for it...Bandit...Joker....but basically they all do the same thing. They are a hybrid LB/SS....that disguise what coverage a defense is in. Hard to tell if the same person is playing as a LBer or DB. It's a genius idea...confuse a team using the same personnel....but equally effective regardless of what defense is called. :)

The 2005 draft brought in a linebacker who was a third down/package linebacker. Kevin Burnett

Also, that very role has often be played by a safety in packages with the likes of Woodson and Roy Williams.

Oh, I agree with your analysis. Very mobile is even heightened more in a Marinelli run defense as well...

The only reason I say that is because I don't recall too many times guys just beating us for 40-50 yard bombs like in previous years.
