It’s the coordinator and scheme first and foremost. It's the talent and roster depth. Specifically at LB & Safety.
Every player didn’t ‘suddenly get worse’.

And you can put All-Pros at every defensive position and they’d still struggle in this terrible scheme and coaching.Bingo. You can bring Bill Bellicheck in here and he couldn't save this LB and S group. Probably the worst it’s been since the latter Landry years. Even during the lean Campo years they had good smallish LBs and Woodson holding the fort at S.
Vague question. There are TONS of variables besides JUST the DC.Why weren't they as bad the last few season then?
I have those same Kiffin/Nolan vibes.I'm really skeptical of bringing him back as well. As much as I want to believe its mostly a personnel issue, you would think by week 13 many of the same issues would no longer be as glaring with the right adjustments. He absolutely needs a MLB and safety that is more instictive and is capable of getting themselves in the right position. However, I would hate to waste another year with him. This reminds me of bringing in Monte Kiffin and Mike Nolan. Both were 1 year here and were so bad it made no sense to bring him back. The defense improved under the next guy..
When did I say: "Every player didn’t ‘suddenly get worse."It’s the coordinator and scheme first and foremost.
Every player didn’t ‘suddenly get worse’.
What strengths do you expect from the entire secondary missing games, at one point we had 4 Safeties out.Until Schott forced him to make changes, he has been stubborn forcing this scheme on his players, rather playing towards their strengths.
They won't do it. They will continue thinking this is good enough to win.Different DC's, Different Players, Different systems....similar results.
Until they are willing to invest more in the Defense it will continue.
Q Williams could be the start of that. Now they just have to hit on the their first few draft picks and still go after good defensive FAs and not just guys on their last legs willing to play for coupons.
Thought run defense got worse when he got hurt, but hasn't played since early in the season.Good post.
Disagree on the Sanborn hate.
He’s been inured/IR most of the season.
Elam had a decent PFF given the jacked up cover schemes.
All of the DB numbers are in the tank.
Also, reminds me of keeping MM after the GB blowout playoff loss.I'm really skeptical of bringing him back as well. As much as I want to believe its mostly a personnel issue, you would think by week 13 many of the same issues would no longer be as glaring with the right adjustments. yes and there is no accountability with eberflush from the jones, and shotty has no control over him.Murray/ Elam = F-
Scheme and putting players in good positions to make a play = F-
Should be fired, but Jerry likes him.
When you said this:When did I say: "Every player didn’t ‘suddenly get worse."
I didn't.
All of the linebackers, safeties, corners, and linemen didn’t suddenly forget how to play. It's the talent and roster depth. Specifically at LB & Safety.
Just because Jerryd Lips were moving and Brian Schottenheimer supporting him in public did not call the man out so he could finish the season doesn't mean he likes him Doesn't mean he's keeping him he fired Mike Nolan after one season he's gotten rid of players with big money left on their contracts The narrative say he he doesn't but he actually has he's fired coaches with many years left on their contracts...Jerry likes him so there's really no problem.
