Eberflus is the problem!

I'm really skeptical of bringing him back as well. As much as I want to believe it’s mostly a personnel issue, you would think by week 13 many of the same issues would no longer be as glaring with the right adjustments. He absolutely needs a MLB and safety that is more instictive and is capable of getting themselves in the right position. However, I would hate to waste another year with him. This reminds me of bringing in Monte Kiffin and Mike Nolan. Both were 1 year here and were so bad it made no sense to bring him back. The defense improved under the next guy..
The Whiners are ravaged by injuries and they are playing good on defense because they have good coaching.

Some of you will never get this, but coaching matters a lot!!! Coaches can make it much easier for mediocre players to make plays by the scheme they put them in AND by having everyone on the same page for each specific scheme design.

Eberflus also ok'd the trades of Murray/Elam and the signing of Sanborn, all three have been complete busts. I understand that they do not want to keep on hiring a new DC every season, but Eberflus is clearly not the answer for the future of this team.

THIS !

It’s the coordinator and scheme first and foremost.

This !

This is why they looked better against KC as they were forced to play press coverage against Mahomes as he eats up zone coverages.
This is true but Mahomes didn't have Gibbs and TWO elite WRs. Hell, Gibbs alone is a handful and we knew that and STILL couldn't stop him.

Bingo. You can bring Bill Bellicheck in here and he couldn't save this LB and S group. Probably the worst its been since the latter Landry years. Even during the lean Campo years they had good smallish LBs and Woodson holding the fort at S.
They would play to the strengths of their players not force their scheme on them

What strengths do you expect from the entire secondary missing games, at one point we had 4 Safeties out.
Every team has their injuries, even when they have been healthy still have had their struggles

They could of used Steward on him kind of like Lewis facing the saints and Kamara

I have a different take.......we ALL agree the run issues are fixed but stated the pass defense is still a work in progress. Remember, the Lions have arguably the most dangerous RB in the league as a runner AND receiver. Now add TWO elite WRs against our subpar LBers and secondary. The pitch and catch we saw via "soft zone" was Eberflus scared to death of getting beat over the top. He was literally faced with pick your own poison. IMO we lost coz we simply didn't have enough to match their high-power offense. I think another asked why we only used the 5-man front 11 times. There is your answer. I'm pretty sure Campbell adjusted by threatening to take advantage of the vulnerable backend.

Honestly, I would like to see a different DC also, especially Schotty choosing his own but IMO the Lions game was lost by superior talent, not coaching.
I will repeat, the way you beat the Lions is getting Goff to move off that spot. Playing soft zones without the blitz made it easy for him

His style of defense only works if you have the right players to run it.

He needs to be more aggressive to create chaos in order to get off the field from time to time.

One of the things that gives me hope is his contract length was never disclosed. Plus them saying they hope he's back next year leads me to believe its a one year deal. Doesn't mean he won't be back though. We know schotty is here another 3 years with dak.

Okay man I don't want to say this but I'm going to say it anyway Can you not state the obvious any more than we've already been discussing it Mr Captain Obvious..LOL

I sure hope the confidence that Jerry and Schottenheimer have had in public have been just that make Matt Eber flues comfortable while he's here, not cause any drama, but I hope that vote of confidence is just fake,

I hope this ends up being like Wade Phillips and Mike Nolan you can talk them up all you want to try to hope it gets turned around but he needs to be the first firing.

It's crazy to think Jerry would shy away from getting rid of him over continuity, what continuity ?!!!! what familiarity !!??

nothing here has worked on defense, no matter what they've done, Jerry should see that as a slap in the face, that he spent all these draft picks at the trade deadline, and rush players back, to try to help Matts defense, only to have him revert back to what he did against the Lions, and just sit back in what looks like a prevent defense, and let them just eat up space all underneath, all night, after the 1st 2 series, I was like OK he's going to bring the heat and whatever happens, happens, but no he reverted back to playing prevent defense all night..

That is what I call this ridiculous looking cover three with 4 down lineman and hardly any pass rush, almost no blitzing ,and you end up having your defense have guys like Bell covering Jameson..

IT was that bad, we see it but jerry's talking about bringing this guy back.

I just hope that's posturing not trying to throw the guy under the bus and I hope he changes his mind ,There's no way I want to see this guy coaching for the Cowboys next year in any way shape or form, because I think I'll be triggered if he doesn't get fired..

This is not Mike Mccarthy, because Mike Mccarthy won 36 games two division titles When did the playoffs three straight years in between his bad showing in the playoffs in 2023, they did have a high seed in the home game, that is why I was OK for him getting that one extra year they tried it didn't workout...

this is a guy like Mike Nolan that needs to be axed ASAP because he's unwilling to change and be consistent with his change.

Thought that the defense is bad ,it's not that the players were hurt ,and he didn't have enough players, because we could let him have that ,but we can't let him have the inability to stick with something that at least shows some resistance on defense, to slow another team and not put all this pressure on your offense....

I mean we could have just watched the last two scores Prescott in this offense after how about the night went 10 minutes left on the clock they get the score 30-27.. Got plenty of time you finally are back in the game and what they do turn around and give up 14 really quick points no resistance they didn't even try to help this team win the game..

And alone the last two series In the Lions game should get this guy fired. That's all we need to see..
The first thing Jerry should do is slap himself unconscious for still being the GM.

Yes, the Cowboys did trade away their best defensive player in Parsons, but they did fix a major weakness in stopping the run. Since Williams has been acquired, they are one of the best in that area. Last week, they didn't lose cause they couldn't stop the run, but rather Detroit ate them up in those soft zone coverage. Once Eberflus stopped sending the blitz, it was pitch and catch for the Lions Offense all night long.

Most of the same players are here from the Quinn/Zimmer defenses, yet they are all having their career worst seasons. Eberflus also ok'd the trades of Murray/Elam and the signing of Sanborn, all three have been complete busts. I understand that they do not want to keep on hiring a new DC every season, but Eberflus is clearly not the answer for the future of this team.

It is time to hire the best available candidate, not a coach who has been here before who has a prior relationship with the Jones family. Allow Schott to pick his own DC, like he did with his offensive staff. He hired a young, rising star in Adams as his OC, where he had zero prior experience with. Do the same for the DC. Yes, the defense needs some talent, but they aren't as bad as they have looked this season under Eberflus. Just look at the Bears defense this year, how much better they are post Eberflus.
Their LBs and Ss are a bigger problem.

Yes, they are that bad. Exactly what makes you say they aren't?

I concur. If you need a probowler at every spot, your scheme sucks. If the goal of your D is to not give up big plays and you give up more big plays than anyone, your scheme sucks.
Well, that's pretty lame. How about this, you do need actual NFL players at every spot. We don't.

Why weren't they as bad the last few season then?
Different players. Do you really pay that little attention? We let Lewis/Gholston/Kendricks/DLaw/Lawson/Watkins all walk. How in the world did you not notice this? And then traded away our only top player before the season.

I swear, some people.

They've been "nfl players" before this year. I guess they all forgot how to play.in the same year.

Following last seasons time clock management debacle on Thanksgiving Eberflus was fired in Chicago as HC . The overall broad picture is what did Chicago do on defense that had Jones hiring him here other than he used to work here . So what .

Speaking generalities, all you got?

So you really don't believe the loss of Parsons and Lewis and Gholston matters? How about the fact that we were 28th on D last season, not far off from this year? Who was the bad DC last year?

Define NFL players. I define them as starters. We only have like 3 starting quality players on D. 3, that's it. Think about that before you respond, hey?

I know it sounds insane to wait but maybe Jerry gave him some new toys as like a second chance bigger picture to help make them have larger sample size and scenarios so when he makes a decision he knows that it was the correct thing to do...
Well the det game gave them the answer ?? why wait?

Wilson, Hooker, Bland, Fowler, Marist to name a few have taken huge steps back.
