I love professional football. Not so much the college game because you will have varying levels of players on the field, unlike professional football, who will have the best of the best playing in every game.

I admire talent. No matter what team it is on.

This kid made a stellar catch. He will be a huge pain in the rear for Dallas in the future. And the idea of Cruz being on their team as well should be worrisome in seasons to come.

The Giants lost because Dallas made the adjustments and was the better team.

I guess I don't see a need to ridicule this guy because he plays for the Giants. Had he played for Dallas, this video would be the signature of at least twenty people who post here and the rebuttal argument for who has the best receivers in the league with fans of any other team.

He has mad skills, and I can appreciate that. I wish Dallas had him across from Dez. Or in the slot instead of Butterfly Beasley.

Just my thoughts.

Twodeep, I was sure hoping that he would have lasted till our pick, I love Zack Martin, but having a relative on the Cowboys would have been great. He will be a great receiver I just wish he was not with the giants, but as I told him, I will always wish him to do well even against us, but that the giants always lose against us. But against eveyone else I will root for his team to win

Eric Davis the other day on NFL AM called it just that.. He's a former 9er defensive back, so a lot better qualified to comment on this than many....

Key moment: Cornerback Eric Davis returned an interception of Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman 44 yards for a touchdown that set the tone for an overall dominant performance by the 49ers.

I wouldn't call that an overall dominant performance by SF. The Cowboys were a missed PI call away from making it interesting or even winning.

I understand. And some of it has to do with this being New York City.

But Nav, have YOU EVER seen a catch like that before?

It overshadowed Romo's day, and the win. But in the future of the league, this will be shown over and over. We witnessed it live - on TV.

But the footnote is they lost. It's a travesty, but Dallas took the W and went home.

That catch will live in infamy.

It might've been the best I've seen. Then again, I've seen TONS of outstanding 1-handed catches in recent years that might've been close to as good but I got over them. Randy Moss effortlessly pulled in a 1-handed bomb when he was with the Patriots.

It'd be one thing if it was the game-winning touchdown. It happened in the 2nd quarter, they're 3-8, and they LOST. I'm already over it, personally.
So you don't get why the original "The Catch" gets attention decades later?
Is this a joke? You're comparing a catch made by a 3-8 loser to the game-winning TD catch in an NFC Championship game?

THAT is why threads like this exist.

Great play by Beckham, idk why Cowboys fans want to try to take that away. But this is funny.

I guess they lack the maturity to tip your hat to a rival player for a truly epic play.

Best catch ever.

Moss didn't fall backwards and reach out with 3 fingers to snatch the football after contact with the defender.

A few of these are at least NEARLY as impressive as Beckham's catch, if not just as impressive. The 3 fingers aspect is a tad overrated... yes, he originally stopped the ball with 3 fingers, but he still needed to bring it into his body (using all 5 fingers) to secure the catch.

The biggest difference is that none of these guys play for a New York team and therefore weren't given their full 24 hours of media fawning. Even though the catch was ultimately meaningless since they lost the game and are therefore out of the playoff race.

Since when does context not matter? "The Catch" is still shown because it sent the 49ers to the Super Bowl. It MATTERED.

All impressive. Not one of the WRs were fouled by a defender with a hand full of jersey before they made the catch. Beckhams would be number one on that list to me.

I appreciate great plays period. Did you watch the pregame? He made about the same catch in warm ups. The kid is talented.

I'm biased, because I am related to him, but in all of my 50yrs of watching football I have never seen a better catch.

You should be proud. I know I would be. You can't talk him into a Cowboys uniform?;)

Can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I'm fine with the ridicule is because of the absurd amounts of hype it received.

I get that it was a spectacular catch... what I don't get is the media covering it as if the outcome of the game itself was a mere footnote. Classic East Coast bias.

Reverse the situation. Dez makes the spectacular catch but Romo throws an awful INT, Eli leads the game-winning drive, then Romo goes 4-and-out with a minute to go and 3 timeouts. Cowboys lose.

There is no way in hell SportsCenter spends 20+ minutes slobbing Dez the way they slobbed Beckham. The story would've been "Cowboys are imploding, Romo choked again, Eli's still great". I turned on NFL Live yesterday and the entire rundown of upcoming topics were ALL Beckham-related.

Am I in the Twilight Zone? What's the point of football again? To win the game or to make a spectacular play in a loss? Did the Giants show up to win the game or not?

On the front page of ESPN's NFL page soon after the game ended, there was an article about how Beckham's catch SAVED THE SEASON for the Giants. I'm dead serious. The author's point was that football is entertainment and Beckham entertained the Giants fans.

When Woody Dantzler made what may have been the greatest kickoff return in NFL history in a LOSS to the 49ers, did it receive 2% of the hype that Beckham's catch received? Of course not.

The Giants are a 3-8 joke who blew a double-digit lead, at home, to a division rival. Their QB played well for most of the game, then made a few AWFUL mistakes in the 2nd half to blow it. The INT, missing a wide-open Beckham deep, the terrible 3rd down pass on their final drive.

Nearly no mention of that, of course, just like there was barely any mention of Romo coming up clutch yet again. It's only a big story when Romo loses, I've learned.

A little perspective is all I ask for. Have you EVER seen a play, made by a player on a 3-8 team, hyped up as much when it came in a LOSS? I sure as hell haven't.

I could not agree with this post more. Literally hits every single point that needs hit regarding this topic. Well done friend.

Yeah, like I said, it may have been the best I've seen. But there's been lots of amazing 1-handed catches and if Beckham's was the best, it's only marginally better than some of these other catches.

It wasn't SO much better that he deserved an entire day of fawning while the rest of these guys got next to nothing in comparison. Especially since it was ultimately a meaningless play for a terrible team.

Most blatant example of East Coast media bias I've ever seen. Like I said, reverse the situation and Dez wouldn't get half the attention Beckham got. The Cowboys losing/Romo choking would be the story and Dez's catch would be a mere footnote.

It wasn't a full extension grab like Beckham's, but Dez had a one handed TD catch against the Lions last year where he basically pinned the ball between his helmet and shoulder. That was a very impressive play as well.

I can still remember that amazing catch pretty clearly. And we lost that game. And I also remember after the game the media was asking Dez about that spectacular TD catch and he basically responded by saying thanks, but it didn't matter because we lost.

Context matters. And looking back I really like that that was Dez's genuine response in that situation. Dude wants to win above all else.

Well, you're 1 for 1. I hope he has a great career, and goes something like 0-22 against the Cowboys.

He if very gifted.

The most over hyped catch in the history of the NFL. Without the gloves....it's just an incompletion

I did see in the pregame show that he practices that catch. Knowing that, it's less impressive to me. IMO, the way Eli hung that ball in the air, OBJ could have got under that ball and made a more conventional catch. He caught it the way he did on purpose just to showboat. To me it seems more like a novelty trick that he's practiced than something that just spontaneously happened out of necessity. Nice trick.
