Twitter: Edwards interviewed

I wish there would be a college coach mainly because of the teaching virtually aspect. If you can get kids in college to understand via zoom you can teach anyone especially when things get back to normal.

I loved Wades first defense. Even in the first preseason game that year the players looked like they were let out of a cannon.

I remember that he was even employing the 46 at times that gave Bradie James a bunch of sacks situationally that he learned with Buddy Ryan during the Eagles.

I think Wade is even open up coming back to the Cowboys.

my newest concern is Joe Whitt Jr was Quinn's secondary coach in ATL.....and ATL secondary defense was Horrible !
Would McCarthy/Quinn be on board to hire Witt as new DB coach ? . (Uugh !)
He was the passing game coordinator, but idk maybe a new team fresh blood will help idk

I think Quinn is getting hired and if he does, I like it, a 4-3 defensive coordinator and hopefully he brings Witt with him as the defensive coach
Yea I think Witt would be the db coach which is better than what we have

I will say this, Quinn matched up with Edwards might be a very good fit. Edwards basically ran the dline in Minny and had a top 5 team on D. He knows how to get the most out of average players.I actualy prefer him to coach the dline over anyone we bring in. Just knowing his track record running the 4-3. He and Quinn intrigues me..altho Quinn in itself scares me given his lack of recent success. Maybe in the right system he can get his mojo back.

Edwards hasn't coached the defensive line since he was at Georgia in the 90s. He's been a linebackers coach for the last 20 years, along with being a DC in Washington and Minnesota.

they normally have ya fly in on that 2nd interview unless an offer is imminent. Thats in any job interview process.Later today he will be named the new DC I expect
Yea that's normally how it goes, especially with Dallas

told ya guys. I kinda said this on another post/thread. I see this as whats coming. Edwards will be the "assistant HC" IN TITLE ONLY and the dline coach. Quinn will be the D corrd. I see this coming a mile away.
totally makes sense and the other guys we interviewed possibly brought in as well.

ATL gave up the worst amount passing yards in NFL with Whitt coaching the DBs, ..how is that an improvement ?

Idk my friend, I'm just trying to find and look at the brighter spot of things. Which is why insaid hopefully a new team new players fresh look will change some things. I think the yea before were better under him. Idk

Interviewing Edwards was purely done to satisfy the Rooney Rule. Dan Quinn was always the Cowboys #1 target as DC.

iu
Jerry and Dan Quinn
..lol..

No it wasnt lol.
The team had already interviewed Joe Whitt Jr.
and Jason Simmons such a weak take....

good grief my dude.
Edwards was interviewed because he was the most highly thought of defensive staffer in town.

Tell yourself whatever you need to. My point stands! Dan Quinn was always the #1 target they were focused on.

He was interviewed just like Ray Sherman was interviewed when Jerry hired Jason Garrett as HC. Just like Kris Richard was interviewed we he hired M&M and Mike Nolan.

The Rooney rule only applies to hiring HC or senior football operation jobs. Not for hiring defensive coordinators.

Even so, it still doesn't contradict my point. No minority candidate ever had a serious consideration for the job. It was Dan Quinn's job the whole time to accept or reject.

My guess is this was Jerry's first choice and he had to sell MM on him.
They interviewed two candidates who were MM tree guys with secondary specialist and then a 3rd guy whom they had in house and like quite a lot in Edwards.
But yes I think Jerry wanted to pair a 3 time Super Bowl DC with a SB winning HC.
Jerry is playing the short game here with his coaching staff which makes sense given his age.

Had a more proven DC been available they'd likely had been the choice but the more proven DCs were all out hunting a head coaching job with like 5-6 positions open. See Gus Bradley.

I don't think Jerry had to do any selling of this hire to MM. He just sent him a text message that Dan Quinn was the guy he was hiring.
