If you know what the record is for sacks in a season, then you know that nobody in the history of the league has ever gotten "home a few times per game", if by "getting home" you're only counting sacks. Watt has 2 sacks in 3 games this season.

ware had 4 sacks in his first 3 games last year. may point to the fact that 3 games into the season is not the time to judge a player or a team

It's about sacks. Teams are throwing more and more, which leads to more opportunities for sacks. JJ Watt gets his sacks, regardless of how fast the QB can get the ball out. Watt will get home a few times per game.

Pressures? Pshh. You can pressure a qb, and they still complete the pass. What's the record for qb pressures? Nobody knows. But I know what the record is for sacks in a season.

Yes, a "few" would indicate more than 2. The minimum for a "few" would be 3. That's 48 sacks in a season at a minimum.

The record for a season is 22.5 sacks. That's 1.4 sacks per game on average. That is not getting home a "few" times per game.

That may point to an unfortunate season ending look when compared to Demarcus Ware's start. But if one is pointing towards a team tendency, one first needs a team comparison factor, not just a single individual player. That is, to make a case...

From what I understand about his contract, we will have to pay him 9 million dollars if we decide to keep him next year. I know he's hurt, but he has only produced 3 tackles and a fumble recovery in 3 games.

He sat out the entire pre-season, and we were assured he's ready to go. It looks like he is going to miss this week's game, so with a quarter of a season gone, he has basically done nothing. I thought in order for us to success, he had to be as good as advertised, and he hasn't even been close.
Let's say he turns it on at the end of the year and somehow produces 7 sacks, 2 FF and 30 tackles. Do you seem him staying on the team next year?

If he produces 7 sacks in the last 3/4 of the season I'd be more than happy to pay him 9 mil next season. Why wouldn't you? What the heck are your expectations?

I could see him restructuring his deal. That 9 million might mostly turn into a prorated bonus, so I think he will be with us for at least another year.

Who cares? The debate is about sacks vs pressures. Why are you so concerned about one sentence in my previous post where I misspoke? Let me make it clear for you amd everyone else, watt will get home 1-2 times per game on average. Sacks are more important than pressure, imo. My point was that Watt is going to get his sacks, regardless. Now if you have a counterpoint, go ahead and provide it. Much like I did in my previous post.

Have you guys seen Demarcus Lawrence? Pretty sure through 4 games, he's done nothing to earn his draft status. Epic bust.

Snip snip.

Hey, that's 5 yards for premature joculation.
The dude has a minor injury, and he might be a perennial pro-bowl guy for all we know.
A bust is a guy who flat cannot play, and is out of the league in 1-3 years.

Hatcher was a sack machine for half a season against bad teams. The rest of his career.....bupkus.

Sure, there are Sapps and Watts that come along, but usually, good defensive tackles are like Russell Maryland. They create problems that chase plays to sacks for other players.

Which offensive power-houses have we played this year?

And he's getting push.

Never measure a guy in sacks. Teams can eliminate sacks if they just quick-throw everything. It's about pressure, not sacks, and Melton is doing OK there.

The problem is there's no edge speed. Spencer and Lawrence will have to provide that.

They can eliminate pressure via the same way. Who is quick throwing on us, because of the "pressure" we are generating?

I'm just responding to the folks that say Melton was a wasted signing. He's playing pretty well and will improve as we go if his health continues.

Crawford showed a lot more at the same position. He was great.
