Eli's Daddy is taking up for him :-)

It was only last week that Archie told Eli to "Act like a man" and take your lumps, the good with the bad....

Now he asks fans to give him time... ooffa... they didnt do it for AROD here... why do it for Eli?

Next football players will be wearing diapers....

I agree, however do you realize what this does to how he is perceeived by other players on the his team and around the NFL.

Sometimes the best thing to do for your kids is to let them learn life lessons on thier own while you QUIETLY support them. He is not a child, he is a man in a mans sport. It has NOTHING to do with nurturing. How can he be a leader on h is team when he still has his Daddy leading him???? Get real man!!!

Sure I understand this. However, I understand it as a parent with a child who is probably playing HS sports. I have no concept of how it must be for somebody like Archie Manning, who's son is in NY city and is under unbelievable pressure by fans and media. Sometimes your children need more then just Silent encouragement. Sometimes, it gets to big for anybody. I have never been involved in Pro Sports but I have been in situations where the stakes are life and death and all I had was my parents to encourage me. This may sound a bit over the top but I know that without them, I don't know how I could have made it. Sometimes, you gotta do more then just silently encourage. Sometimes you gotta step up and be there in any way you can. Doesn't matter how fans view it. That's when children need the parents most. When it becomes bigger then they are.

How can Eli lead a group of MEN when he can't deal with the pressure himself? A QB is a high pressure position if he can not deal with it get out. He is a grown man and not a kid in high school. Big difference. Sure I support my kids but I also know when to allow them to deal with it on their own. When you have a parent fighting your battles for you, you will never learn to fight your own battles or be battle tested.

I have no problem with a parent supporting thier kids.

But when you do it in the papers you are not doing them any favors in a situation like this.

Daddy needs to stay in the background publicly until it blows over in my opinion.

I felt the same way when Eli decided he would not play for San Diego. Daddy came in on his white horse to the rescue then.

Let the boy be a man and advise him privately.

Believe it or not this has similarities to Peyton.

We all know what the liquored up idiot kicker said about Peyton after they lost to the Jets in a playoff game.

Vandy's comments where about Peyton's leadership and if he thought he was the guy to lead them to the Super Bowl.

You had a kicker talking about the leadership of the team and now you have Daddy doing it.

They are both ill-advised if you ask me.

It can only lead to banners lie

"Where's your daddy?"

"Who's your daddy?"

"The insert team here are your Daddy"

This guy is going to destroy his son's career. He had the Giants trade their picks to San Diego to get Eli and pass on Rivers who happens to be much better than Eli now and the picks helped SD get Merriman (I think).

He just needs to shut the F*** up and stay out of this

Lets not confuse the issue here. Archie isn't taking any snaps behind Center for the NY Giants here. We're talking about an article. That's all. Eli Manning will succeed or fail based on how he plays. That is the over riding factor. It will not matter what Archie says or doesn't say. If Manning improves his play, that is all that will count. Players have things like this go on all the time. Parents, agents, spouses, whatever. In the end, all that will matter to the club is production. The difference here is that Archie Manning said it and so now, it's been picked up by the Media. If this was Monica Finn, you wouldn't say a word about it because Jim Finn's Mom would never have been heard. It wouldn't have been reported. I don't view Archie as being wrong here. He is doing what is within his right, as a parent, to do. Because Eli's dad is who he is, it's being made into a story when in reality, it goes on all the time with others. That is my opinion of this situation.

Your stance on this lines up with mine pretty much.

I'm not saying what his dad did was great, but I understand it and I don't think it will negatively impact Eli.

He was just supporting his son, ... not a bad thing.
