Ellis is getting a raw deal and it's pathetic

Uh huh. Is TO getting a "raw deal" because he has to adapt to a non-West Coast offense? Sorry, but life sucks. Grow the hell up.

Actually TO got a very raw deal last year in philly....but thankfully that happened there or he wouldn't be here right now.

Wow a player on the wrong side of thirty is being asked to reduce his snaps and play where he fits best within the current system.

Oh the humanity.

He's had eight years on this team, and never once has he been much more than average.

Although I do agree, trade him. He's no longer worth the investment. It's time for players on this team to take/earn their jobs/money. Ellis has no interest in either one. Jerry is loyal to a fault. This is a great start to ending that trend.

SS

He played extremely well on very bad Dallas teams in the late 90's into early this decade.....not his fault that there wasn't adequate talent on the defensive line to compliment his talents. Each year he would get off to good starts until teams made him the focal point and bums like Ekuban and Wiley didn't step up to help either.

I got a Question?

Do you like this Star?

:starspin

(i know you do)....

How do you expect him to be anything more than 'average' when he doesn't get enough snaps during a game?

Pass rushing defensive ends that can actually get sacks aren't a dime a dozen nowadays. With that said it's time to either appease and respect Ellis or trade him to a team where he can contribute something and be appreciated!

This is so offbase from reality its not even funny.

Ellis couldnt handle playing 90% of the snaps in the 4-3. Remember all those huge runs in the fourth quarter?

In the 3-4, he is in an even worse position. Even given his reduced role last season he still produced his best sack numbers.

Ellis is 31 and not getting younger and needs to pull his head out his backside and realize as with all older players that he needs to do things to prolong his career.

Whats sad here is that Ellis is acting like a selfish child AND a moron. Him playing 900 snaps a season is going to have him rtired before he sees 33.

And still get paid handsomely. Oh, the heartache!

I say give the baby a bone so he'll shut up. His salary is pretty measly by today's NFL standards. Give him half his 2007 salary up front as a bonus and tell him to shut up and play. If he won't take it, then screw him.

Hell, Jerry gave away two First Rounders for Joey Gallowbust. Wouldn't most of you agree that a couple of million dollars pales in comparson to that? Besides, Ellis was a good soldier during the Gailey/Campo eras. Certainly that count for something.

Yeah this guy was killing the N.F.L. until he broke his leg against the Eagles.

The Answer is disgusted over the way this entire situation is being handled, and also disappointed by a majority of the fans opinions on the matter. Why are so many people assuming the role of the ravenous wolf and suddenly turning on one of the best players we've had this last decade? Ellis has every right to stand up for himself and voice his discontent given the lousy circumstances involved. The Answer is glad that he skipped the voluntary practices yesterday and hopes he continues to do whatever is necessary to send a message that this is not acceptable.

It's time to trade or release Greg if we aren't willing to make him a part of this team in the capacity he deserves. It's not about the money, he just wants a commitment from the front office and coaching staff that he has a role with this team and can finish his career here and not go out like a chump. If the front office refuses to comply than The Answer is all for trading Ellis for a starting offensive lineman since that's really the only area we still need help with. Ellis is 31 and it's only fair he has a chance to go play for a team that he can be start on if he truly don't 'fit into our defensive scheme'. He shouldn't have to play second fiddle to players that have only been with this team a year or two, regardless of their potential.

Ellis might not be a superstar, but he is a consistent and well above average in his pass rushing skills. In years past he was the focal point of double teams and attention from opposing offensive lines because he was that good and there was nobody else available on the opposite side to create pressure. He has averaged 8 sacks the last 4 years and been the player that bums like Ekuban or Wiley could only dream of. In fact he likely would have had well over 10+ sacks last season had his time not been reduced in favor of younger players. It's time for the front office to quit politicking and either give Greg what he rightfuly deserves or move on....

Don't know if it helps, but I felt the same way about Lavar when he was getting benched and his role reduced/changed, and I was furious when we decided to let him go.

Bottom line I think is that chemistry and heart are what win the tough games down the line, and keeping someone on your team whos openly unhappy isn't doing anyone any favors long term.

Is the real issue here money? I don't think so. I think its more about wounded pride on Ellis' part.

Personally, I think Ellis' agent is looking for a fresh commission check.

Ah....a predictable wrinkle.

Figure out which side most people are on, and take the other.

Lame.

I think everyone's missing what's really happening here......

Ellis is creating "controversy" with this squabble to take the attention away from anything TO does.

It's brilliant! He's taking one for the team....what a team player!

Come on people, take a look outside the box!

hehehehe

say BP....doesn't this thread qualify for a merge?

Well if the other "Big" ellis thread was on the main page I would.

But since it is not I will let it stand.

Why let details get in the way?

I have a plan for this thread's location.
