Since free speech never really applied to twitter in the first place. Since each member who signed up for the service and agreed to terms with it.

I feel the same way I felt before and after he bought it. The person that owns the company can control who and what is said on it's platform. No problem with that.
I do find it funny that he had to learn a multiple billion dollar lesson. Thought he was a smart man.

Oh, definitely. It’s just hilarious that some viewed this guy as the beacon of light when it came to free speech. We’re talking publicly available information being censored because 1 guy doesn’t like the fact that it has to do with him.

This is why you don’t worship billionaires. They don’t care about you at all and will readily disregard any position they’ve ever had in the name of their ego or wallet.

“Free speech”. Lol.

Well they "beep", but maybe only a 20% catch rate on that one.

It was awfully embarrassing for both. Elon was boo'd off stage, and Chapelle thought it was necessary to insult people who paid for the "cheap" tickets to his show.

This was way back when Jerry would go after the big FAs and spend the money

Well, he'll assuredly suspend any account that reports on a celebrities whereabouts then, won't he? Paparazzi problem solved, I guess.

Lol. If you believe it's about safety then explain why he tried to pay this kid to delete the account at one point prior to owning Twitter. This is publicly available information and he's clearly muting things that he doesn't like.

Actually, I think Twitter made that a new site-wide policy when they enforced it for his own account so it **should** apply to all accounts.

As for the plane, I read more into it and it turns out it was not public information. The person posting it even admitted it.

Apparently private jet owners can request their data be anonymous, but the guy had spotters spying on Musk and/or his airplane to figure out which anonymous ID was being used for his plane so it could be tracked.

Before I learned that I was thinking it was a power move by Musk as well, but after reading more about the person posting it and Musk's child being stalked (assuming that is true of course), I find it harder to blame Musk/Twitter for implementing the new policy.

Do you actually believe a 20-year-old college student who started doing this when he was literally a child had "spotters" all over the place? Come on, man. The kid was a nerd who liked tracking planes of famous people and had other accounts (also suspended) for tracking other billionaires.

FlightRadar24 is an app that lets you point your phone to the sky and see every registered plane that is currently flying in the field of view. Or, you can just scroll around the map and see flights anywhere. A Dallas-to-Cozumel flight lifted off about 10 minutes ago. The University of Utah helicopter is currently flying around SLC. This is absolutely publicly available information.

Furthermore, you can't just look at a plane and know their anonymous ID because their registration number is the same as it always has been. Even if you could the destination doesn't have to be listed. Open FlightRadar24 and look for some anonymous flights and you'll find that no destination is listed.

But, for the sake of argument let's suppose the kid had spotters who had some sort of way of determining Elon's plane was departing from a certain location. How has this tweet aged? Usually commitments last longer than a month. Well, unless it's a drunk wedding in Vegas.

 
Lol, and there's more. Now he's banning journalists who (based on what I can gather at the moment) just posted links to sites that do track flights. Anyone who bought into his "free speech" stance should be ashamed of themselves.

I will admit that watching him burn Twitter to the ground is some of the best social media fun that I have had in a while.

The Elonjet guy admitted he was getting updates from spotters. I did not say he was hiring them.

My point was that you stated it was public information, and that was not accurate or even true. It started that way, but once Musk had his jet data set to anonymous, it required spotters stalking him to keep up with it.

I realize you seem to be strongly anti-Musk, but I am just posting information I have learned. I will do the same if it's pro-Musk or anti-Musk as I really do not care.

I do think it's creepy and highly suspect to track someone regardless if it's in a plane, a car or just walking around. We have laws against stalking regardless of the circumstance.

Given that Musk has antagonized a lot of people, I am not surprised people are trying to harass him. That said, I can understand after seeing a stalker harass and scare his child why he would overreact the way he is.

Twitter is now a private company so he can run it like he wants and only answer to his investors. Whether the users stick around wih all of the drama is a completely different story though.

There were a lot of journalists and media publications that were suspended and banned before he bought it, so I really see no difference.

The only thing that matters is if the users start to leave and so far that has not happened.

That said, if Musk keeps antagonizing people and flip-flopping on things he said in recent weeks and months, I can see a lot of people leaving.

I have always said that the only way a social network will die is if famous people leave it. Average people join and quit social media every day and nothing happens and no one notices.

If a lot of celebrities, professional athletes, musicians, etc. start to leave, the regular users will not be far behind them.

I'm not strongly anti-Musk. I am strongly anti-Twitter because I think it's trash, and if you're going to make yourself the sole face of trash then expect some negative feedback. Also, I guess I would say I am strongly anti-worshipping-Musk. Just like I am strongly anti-worshipping any celebrity or billionaire. And there is a difference.

I've stated before I saw no reason why he should buy Twitter and I would have preferred that he didn't because I want him to be focusing on his projects that are actually worthwhile. SpaceX is awesome. StarLink is cool but probably limited as I have had satellite internet before and it wasn't great. The effort will ultimately pay off if he keeps at it. Tesla can get better with greater ranges and battery capacity. There is so much more he could focus on than a **** platform like Twitter.

Instead, he's basically turned into a Twitter-obsessed idiot who clearly has no idea what he is doing in that realm and who is censoring "free speech" to an extent that exceeds what was happening before.

The idea that people thought he would "save" free speech is just comical to me. I guess that's the main motivator; to point out how foolish it is to think that anyone like Elon Musk actually cares about "free speech". He cares about his speech. It's a tale as old as time. People in power care about their interests and their interests only.

The problem with someone saying they are going to right a wrong is that their definition of right and wrong may not fit what everyone else considers right and wrong.

As for Twitter, I think it was great back when it first launched and it was manily used by people posting more-often-than-not read-worthy tweets.

What most people do not realize is that Twitter, like most social media, is basically a pyramid scheme. It may not be based on financial benefits, but the goal is to have enough famous/popular people at the top to keep the masses pouring in at the bottom thinking they are somehow on the same level as those above.

As for Tesla, competition has been catching up to them. Their innovation has slowed heavily and more and more companies are investing in the EV markets now.

I think SpaceX is a great company, but it remains to be seen how other competitors will match against them in the coming years.

StarLink was a great idea, but I predicted they would encounter the same exact problem mobile carriers have been facing for years which is localized saturation of bandwidth. I have heard a lot of people complaining that the bandwidth speeds drop to unusable levels during prime time and that's with only a small percentage of the internet user base actually using the service.

I do not hate Twitter, but I would not be sad if it declined in popularity. Most of the primary social media services are nothing more than over-crowded arenas where everyone is screaming hoping to get noticed. Eventually people are going to figure out the top 1% of each network is all that matters to most people.

Links to a site I've never heard of (Mastodon) but who is supposed to be a competitor have now been blocked on Twitter. Guess that's more free speech.

It's his company and he can do as he chooses, but don't piss on people and tell them it's raining.
 
He’s already reinstated the journalists he banned the other day. Lol. I guess “doxxing” and his safety are no longer an issue.
