Emmitt eyes are just as good as anybody's......he saw the Fall Guy label placed on Zeke.
Nothing to see here, Franchise Icon, gives support to a good franchise player, solidarity against the financial machinations of the NFL. In private you'd expect (hope) Emmitt was saying.... Zeke, I know you have faith in your ability, but sometimes the writing's on the wall and us RB's have to face it, it's a young boys position.

I respect Zeke for playing through the injuries, however it was going to yield the same result regardless.

If he missed all that time vs. playing injured, he was still not going to be as productive as we needed.

There was little chance for him to remain. The moment he signed that contract his expiration date was set.

Love you Emmitt but your post sounds like you were drunk and posting at the same time.

How appropriate that the pure mercenary, Emmitt Smith, tells others to go get their money, like they need him telling them that. What does he think they've been doing?

I do not have any loss of respect for Emmitt and his love of money and I think every player should have that mindset of getting all they can while can, just as Elliott did.

The NFL is nothing but hired guns and if FA existed back in the 60's, doubt we have the GB, PIT, SF or DAL dynasties except DAL did that with a very young team.

The owners can get their money. The league can get their money. We're still cowboys fans while Jerry piles up HIS money.

But Emmitt and Zeke...are the trash bags?

We hate emmitt and zeke but it was jerry that did it. And we still....watch and give this site it's money. All you fake phoneys crying about greed....you do the same thing yourself.

Did you happen to misread my post? I was talking about Smith preaching to the choir about going for the gold. I didn't have a problem with Emmitt or Elliott going for the gold.

Emmitt ein us three SBs, I'll respect him until I die.

Zeke? He got his money, did his job (more or less), on to the next. Won't remember his name tomorrow.

I respect Emmitt but he seems to forget that the NFL is a 2 way street. Players look for big money regardless of the teams cap situation, that is the teams problem not the players. So when a player is no longer producing at a high enough level it falls to the team to do what is in their best interest. I honestly think Jerry did not want to walk away from Zeke and gave him every chance to get it going but had to do what was right by the team.
Yes, go get your insane signing bonus that should set you financially for a long time and then when you can't perform any longer go B***h about how unfairly you have been treated. When a player signs a huge contract and grossly underperforms its just good business for the player right?

The NFL has changed a lot since Emmitt left. The RB position is no longer a focal point it once was. Throw it 50 times a game and hope your defense can stop the opponent once. It’s like the half court offense in basketball is all but gone. Throw up 3 pointers every game and see who can score 120 first. Emmitt should know this…..

#22 I respect you and still defend the Barry vs Emmitt debate to this day...BUT Zeke did get his money, literally the biggest RB contract at the time, that is the way the FO shows love in the NFL and this FO certainley showed it to Zeke. It was time and we are still too high on cap hit at this position.

It really is a two way street. That’s why I don’t get upset over a player getting paid when they can. And I don’t get upset when the team cuts a player when the pay no longer matches the production . It’s a business
I don’t get why some fans think players should take discounts. It’s a two way street. Owners job is get the best players for the least money. Players job is produce and make as much money as they can. It’s a short career and in many cases leads to a life after of aches, pains and sometimes much worse
Emmitt is wrong on this, Jerry treated Zeke more than fair but he also has an obligation to the other players and fans to do what’s best gift the team
I’m sure most former players feel like emmitt and I get where it comes from. But todays players who perform generally do get paid huge money and Zeke has made enough money to retire tomorrow if he wants and he very well may. I suspect most GM in the nfl agree with Jerry’s move and fan’s assessment that Zeke may very well be done. I wish he would retire so he doesn’t end up like Earl Campbell when he’s older

You can have respect for emmitt and Zeke and still think moving on was the right thing to do in both cases
Zeke did get paid and I’d bet he actually got more than his agent thought he would. Zeke and his agent knew Zeke wasn’t playing out that contract. That’s why you get as much as you can up front. He’s not an idiot, and only an idiot would have thought he’d play out. With the exception of maybe Qb most other positions don’t play out a deal over a couple years
