Shula must've been losing it after that...
That's the year Emmitt held out and we lost the first two games with him out of the lineup. Emmitt was that important to those teams, but it took two losses for Jerry to realize it....
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if we had beaten Buffalo in that second game to go 1-1. I think we only lost 13-10.That's the year Emmitt held out and we lost the first two games with him out of the lineup. You're right about the score.Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if we had beaten Buffalo in that second game to go 1-1. I think we only lost 13-10.
So do I. 1993 Dallas was the strongest, most complete team I have ever seen when everyone was active. You're right about the score.
I think if Emmitt had started the season, we would have gone 16-0.
So do I, and I believe Emmitt would have had a better season than the one he had in 1995.You're right about the score.

Been stupid ever sinceJerry was such a boss for bringing in Jimmy. Goat move by Jerry. Very smart move. Smart owner for doing that.
Wouldn't Emmitt have been a free agent since he had no contract at the time?is that called tampering?
Yup same here. I always bring up the 93 season and if it's all about the line than why couldn't Derrick Lassic do anything when Emmitt was out? The defenses weren't zoned in on the run game and Lassic that's for sure but yet they couldn't run the ball. When people try to discredit Emmitt by hyping his teammates, I always bring that up.
"Why did the '90s Cowboys consistently suck whenever Emmitt was out?"
Greatest RB of all-time.
I believe he was a restricted free agent.Wouldn't Emmitt have been a free agent since he had no contract at the time?
Agreed, Emmitt was the focal point in Dallas. He would not have been in Miami.Emmits great career may have ended up totally different because the Dolphins were built around Marino and his arm...even when Jimmy got there that didn't change.
He didn't hold out - he wasn't under contract. He was a free agent. That's the year Emmitt held out and we lost the first two games with him out of the lineup. Emmitt was that important to those teams, but it took two losses for Jerry to realize it....
And everyone thought he was a loyal Cowboy...I got so much hate for pushing for his departure.Wow, just wow! There was a time when Emmitt Smith seemed indestructible.
At some point, old guys do well to quit dreaming. Surely, he was in jest?
Shula knew it wasn't up to Emmitt to make this trade. It was wishful thinking by 22. Shula nailed it.If Herschel Walker got all those picks, I can only imagine what it would take to trade for #22 in his prime. Might as well forget the Draft for the next three seasons. Don’t blame Shula at all.
