can you elaborate? don't drop something like that and not give us more man, come on lol
I've spoken of this before, but I painted this in the offseason before the SB XXX season:

B4jiUHal.jpg

After the season was over, he was part of an autograph session in Jersey. I took my wife and my nephew, drove 3 hours to Jersey, paid $90 to get his autograph, stood in line for a couple of hours, handed him the painting, and asked to shake his hand. He just looked at me and said, "No. If I shake your hand, then I have to shake everyone's hand."

Meanwhile, guys like Too Tall Jones are standing with their arms around fans, taking pictures with big smiles on their faces, genuinely appreciative of the fact that these people came all way the out to see them and pay good money for them to sign their names.

I met Jay Novacek a few years later at his autograph session, not far from where I live, and I didn't even ask to shake his hand. He reached right out and offered and asked how my day was going. He did the same with every person I saw step up to the table.

I'm not saying Emmitt's a bad person. He's just not the humble, congenial person he makes himself out to be, IMO.

I think Jimmy had more say than any other coach we have had for sure but Jerry was way more involved in things than people think. Literally thier 2 egos proved the saying "Cant have 2 top dogs in the same kennel"....obviously they both couldnt understand that they needed each other to be successful. Jimmy had free reign in Miami and couldn't make it work, Jerry has 27 years of proof his one man show is also lacking.
I think Jerry just figured he could do just as well.

Not winning a championship in Miami is an unfair knock on Jimmy. He left Wannstedt with an excellent roster, just didn’t have the QB.

If he didn’t have Aikman in hand when he took the job, he probably doesn’t win in Dallas either.

But what’s more impressive, winning one SB or getting an organization turned in the right direction?

Everyone’s hero, Bill Parcells is one routine FG away from having only one title, but he successfully turned FOUR organizations from despair into playoff contenders.

yes but Parcells also didnt do it despite Jerry, He was the conservative to Jerry's hyper agressive and it may have worked if they had a couple more years... Dont get me wrong I'm not defending Jerry his record speaks for itself, but he can not be the full blame for all failures with no credit for the wins.

Edit: Well thats not true either because Jerry gets 110% of the blame for JG! so there is that

That was a 47 yard FG attempt on a not so great field. That was not an easy fg. The Bills have themselves to blame for not hurrying things up and settling for a FG.

They certainly do have themselves to blame, because that was the NFCs 2nd best team they lost to.

Yeah and then they got blown out in the next three SB's. By 1993, people were tired of seeing the Bills in SB's.

If they beat the Giants, maybe everything changes.

That's the year Emmitt held out and we lost the first two games with him out of the lineup. Emmitt was that important to those teams, but it took two losses for Jerry to realize it....
I wish we did the for zeke

He probably felt like a "diamond surrounded by trash" that day or something.

Well, they didn't get 2nd best teams after that. And I think that 90 team was their best anyway. Besides, I think 2-3 other teams in the NFC could have beaten them. But they were the best team in the AFC at the time. That was during the time the NFC won 13 SBs in a row. Most of those AFC teams were not very good. The best team the AFC put out during those 13 years was probably the '88 Bengals.

If Emmett was under contract would they not have been tampering? The Great Wall of Dallas was not going to Miami with you Emmett…

Definitely not the person he shows the public. I found that out the day I met him.
My brother found out the same thing about 15 years ago in San Diego at some meet and greet he was able to attend....said that he was BY FAR the biggest tool of all the current and former players there......he wanted nothing to do with the "unwashed" who he was being paid to mingle with. The guy just isn't very smart.

"'I picked up the phone and called Don Shula myself and told him I wanted to come to Miami and play for Miami,' Smith said. 'Because I knew Dan Marino didn’t have a running game.' Smith said he told Shula, 'I want to help you and help Dan get a championship. I said, "Bring me back to the state of Florida." He said, "Well, I don’t know if I could make that offer." He said, "If I do make this offer and you don’t come, all my other players will see what I put on the table for you and it’s going to mess up my chemistry." Smith’s response was he wanted Shula to 'just put something on the table' that would make Cowboys owner Jerry Jones say, “I cannot match it.”' Still, Smith said, Shula wouldn’t budge: 'I can’t do that.' Smith was incredulous. 'I said to myself, ‘Really?’ ”
WOW !
Glad that did not work out !!!

When people try to discredit Emmitt by hyping his teammates, I always bring that up.

"Why did the '90s Cowboys consistently suck whenever Emmitt was out?"

Greatest RB of all-time.
Because CARRYING A TEAM is a Myth created by Dak Haters

He didn't hold out - he wasn't under contract. He was a free agent.
Not totally accurate - his contract was up yes but the Cowboys still owned his rights - this was before free agency - his only option was to hold out to get more money.

He was fortunate that the Boys lost the first 2 game he held out, so he got a better contract.

Thats why there was so little player movement back in the day, owners owned players rights for like 10 years - which was basically their whole career.

Emmitt was still a kid. What would he have been, 23, 24, 25? I wonder if he was simply homesick. He evidently had no clue as to their emerging dominance. It also makes me wonder about Emmitt's confidence in Aikman. If I were to be bothered by this revelation, which I am not, it would be about his seeming lack of loyalty to his teammates. "Help Dan get a championship "??? Please. Short sighted at best. But as someone already said, it worked out...for Dallas...and Emmitt. No way he is all- time anything if he had gone to Miami.

It's interesting, because 1993 was when they were transitioning to free agency. Prior to that, I think teams could protect like 35+ players. Emmitt didn't have the years in to be an unrestricted FA. So Jerry could have matched any offer given by the Dolphins.

This is not correct. Free agency began in 1993 with the Freeman McNeil case. Reggie White signed with the Packers that year. So did Tim McDonald with the 49ers. All the Cowboys had over Smith was the right of first refusal on a contract, and if a team offered a big enough contract, especially with the cap coming on board the next year, Smith definitely could have been on another team.
