Emmitt's last good year; he had almost 1400 yards in basically 14 games. Today you wouldn't even be able to close your eyes and picture a 30 yard back running like that in the modern NFL; at best you would maybe have a guy like Sproles who is still explosive at 32 but not an every down back.

Every time I watch old clips of Emmitt, the phrase "efficiency of movement" pops into my head. He had very little flash and every movement had a purpose. He was just a pleasure to watch.

Exactly.

I read one time a quote from a football coach or scout that to fully appreciate Emmitt, you should watch him in slow motion.Only then would his vision, his movement, his strength, his balance, his awareness, all the things that made him so great, would become so much more apparent.

Emmitt was just incredible.

Agreed. Emmitt had a few more good games after that season, but it really was the last year he was a top flight back. I had him on my fantasy team that year, and he helped me win a lot of games.

If he hadn't broken his finger, it was going to be a record setting night for Emmitt.

Yep. I remember it as if it were yesterday. I remember thinking I was going to watch history being written. And then, he broke his finger during that stiff-arm to the facemask. Aarghhh!!!
