its fine at times to mix things up. But you need good WR's. When all you have is Dez, Williams, Witten, and Beasley its a big problem.

I think its a tool you have in the toolbox, but damn it does sure seem we try to drive a nail with sandpaper too often.

I literally complain about it every game in the game day thread.

Inexplicably we go empty set once we're on the cusp of the redzone (20-30 yards).

And it seems like we're usually sacked or called for holding because the defense will blitz while all of our receivers are clogging up each others lanes in a truncated amount of space on the field.

I can only remember once this season when it worked well and that was the TD pass to Witt against the hapless 49ers.

Nothing like after a nice run to go empty backfield. We do it 8 to 10 times a game. Instead of running again or running play action of the run which is actually a strength of Dak

100%. I hate it every time I see it. It doesn't fit our personnel.

You're talking about 10 personnel.

It typically forces the defense into an undersized dime package, which is good to have a surprise run against every now and then-- especially if you have a guy like Dak who can also carry the ball.

In 2016, we ran that formation on 1% of plays.

Empty backfield and we have a TE that runs a yard short of the 1st down. No speed WR's to get downfield. And the deepest route is 15 yards as Dak dumps it off to the player 2 yards up from the LOS as the safety valve. Yeah real ingenuity there.

Guarantee you that Brady, Rodgers, Romo, Roethlisberger, Stafford, Luck, Cousins, Winston, Goff and Wentz would have good stats with that receiving core and our offensive line. I guarantee it.

On that note, what 4 WRs would you give Dak so that he could be a good empty set QB?

I remember hearing someone say (ex coach) that this shows you when a defense fears the QB. If a draw plays work.

So there's your answer .

It's really stupid with a stud RB. It's even more stupid when the defense knows the exact routes all 5 receivers will be running.
