Enough of One Tech, Three Tech, Give Me Two Great DT's!

Oh it isn’t. Fans just have to scapegoat one guy….but it’s for sure not just a one person or position problem. Those runs on the outside aren’t on Mazi.
Well, yes and no. When the outside contain guys have to consistently collapse in to stop the guys Mazi didn't, those runs are at least partially on Mazi. Man, it just cannot be understated how poor NT play affects the entire D. More LB's have to come in to stop the run, leaving open areas in the middle of the field. Those open areas must be covered by the S's, leaving fewer guys for coverage on the WRs. It's a domino effect.

Forget the DTs. How is our run D outside the tackles? It might not be just a DT problem.
Ha yeah could be.

Paychecks are attached to the QBs hips like flag football. Go get it. Unfortunately teams that have a lead and can run at will need to pass only to mix it up.

It’s painfully clear that this team is only effective with a lead, yet they don’t seem to want to fix that. Still waiting for this FO to prove that fans know nothing.

It’s a shame because there are some other areas of this team that could be pretty good, but there’s no way to overcome the inability to stop the run.

And we just had a draft starting us in the face to fix that, and we went stupid again instead.

Are you saying that it’s a team game and a defense revolves around a certain scheme and everyone being on the same page?

I thought it was about collecting stars and putting up stats.

Why you don’t think the seventh rounders are going to be immediate studs lol?

Tell you what…if they aren’t, this DT room is probably worse than the last few who got trucked in the playoffs.

Yeah but on those big outside runs sometimes Mazi isn’t even on the field and he gets blamed for it.

Rush defense isn’t a one man job is what I’m getting at. No doubt a better 1T will make everyone’s job easier but he’s not the sole problem.

I mean we can’t say that because they spent a first on Mazi lol. If it was about stars they would’ve went elsewhere and while I’m not writing him off yet I wish they did go elsewhere.

I don't care what you call 'em. Clog the middle, be un moveable, collapse the interior OL, cause chaos for the offense !

It ain't rocket science !

They are covered at the 3-tech. They are suspect at best at the 1. Can't just put Soloman Thomas at the 1 and watch him get run over all day. Need a dominant guy thats 325+. On 3rd and long, Thomas and Osa is nice. But as long as teams can run down your throat, there won't be 3rd and longs.
But if they played with 3 solid LBs they could fill the gaps and make tackles with short gains instead of taking the wrong angle and have a RB bust a 20 yard run.
The Cowboys just don't value the LB position and when they get a good one like Parsons they stick him at DE.

Mazi is going to take a ton of heat. The problem isn’t Mazi himself….he didn’t overdraft himself…it’s that this FO is loathe to admit mistakes, and Jerry wants his ROI.

He thinks he has invested enough in the position, not accounting for the idea that some players bust…even first rounders. They count on every one of them being an effective immediate starter.

They need more depth at that position and IMO in recent years with guys like Golston and Hankins and rotational guys they were better than now.

I think we can all agree that if you can’t stop the run you’re toast…except against bad teams that you can get a big lead on, and the DL is full of guys that just want to get to the QB.

I recall Marinelli saying something to the effect of that he wanted his DL to ‘defend the run on their way to the QB.’ That’s seems to have stuck with Jerry similar to Parcells wanting second round TEs when they already had a legit starter.

Gotta keep the LB's clean. That was Landry's reason for going to the Flex DL.

DTs are JAGs in Dallas. We value CBs and DEs more.
I read somewhere that the Cowboys' philosophy is that top-tier DTs who command top dollar are not wanted because Dallas rotates them frequently. They aim for second and third-tier players who are cheaper and can go "all out" for short periods of time, which is supposed to make up for their deficiencies. I'd say this master plan needs some re-evaluation because it ain't working. Maybe if they were actually using second and third-tier players, it would work, but in reality, they've got third and fourth-tier players

I wanted Grant or Pegues. But it didn't fall that way.

Personally, I still would have taken Kenneth Grant at 12, but he went at 13...

Maybe next year. I think the Cowboys will add a vet known for run stopping in 2025.

Chris Jones is a testament to a quality DT making a difference

I agree but how many picks do you keep wasting on a position that’s important but has been proven you can find one all over the draft?

My approach with DT was do I make my offensive line a strength or do I take the DT that may or may not have an immediate impact?

They typically have different responsibilities and it is rare to find guys today that can handle both positions well.

As many as necessary until it’s fixed.

This has been the downfall of the recent teams that had a legit shot to at least get a little deeper into the playoffs. I don’t get off on being right, and I very much hope I’m wrong, but it’s very likely to be what takes this years team down as well.

Brady and Mahomes each lost two SBs. Each time it was about pressure from inside and getting home with only four.

For me anyway, that’s a more effective strategy than trying to get receivers with gaudy stats. As I type I realize even more that the powers that be in Dallas don’t agree.
