Why and what has MJ done to prove he deserves a spot anywhere? He's soft, injury prone, unlucky, not that fast, not that athletic, and hasn't shown crap ever!!! Why do we put up with mediocrity around here? Just admit it was a mistake and move on already... Heath deserves it, cut McCray also... You can find 20 guys on the street tomorrow as good as him and MJ.

What exactly am i "crowning him" as?

Someone worth a roster spot? Someone we should cut Matt Johnson for? Someone who is useful when the games start counting?

Dude has been a virtual unknown. And we have had a lot of names thrown around at safety and he's new...and because he's new...he's shiny.

I don't see us keeping but 4 safeties: Allen, Wilcox, Church and either Johnson or Heath. Looking like the latter right now although I'm certain they are trying to find a way to keep Johnson. Not really sure about the new IR thing where they put them on for less than the season. If that's possible then maybe that for Johnson.

Well this is the thing. If you felt Matt Johnson has potential to be a legit starter for you then a season after drafting him isn't the correct time to let him go. You should feel the same way about him now that you felt about him when you drafted him injury prone or not. I see what they like in him. He can't stay on the field. Sean Lee and Demarco Murray can't either or haven't anyway. I won't cry if Matt Johnson is cut but if the organization feels highly about his talents than they should still feel that way shouldn't they?

Lee and Murray at least tried to play hurt, MJ did the same thing in college. I watched him here for three years. He never practiced and always was on the field come game day. He's finding out that was fine at a D2 school but you can't do that in the NFL.

I would rather keep Hamilton over him as I don't bonk Hamilton will make it to the PS and he has a ton of upside and talent and I know teams were after him.!

Yes, i am "crowning" him as someone i would put on the roster.. not someone i would cut Matt Johnson for though. Not sure where you got that from.

He's someone the organization has been pleased with since early in TC, and from Broaddus to Ciskowski, he's turned some heads with his play this preseason.. whether you noticed or not.

Can you point me to the positive press he was getting before this past preseason game? Would certainly like to read up on him.

Seriously.

I wonder what coma i've been in while he was getting all this hype.

That description doesn't match anything I've seen from the guy, or anything the team has ever said about him, or their actions regarding him. Well, except for the injury prone part.

I'd rather keep a young guy who has been injured, but you know has potential to be a pretty good safety, over a guy who you have already realized has NO chance to ever be able to play safety in the NFL.

How in gods name do you know he has potential to be a good safety? lol what has he shown you? other than hes made out of glass.

Broaddus has made several comments about him through his "tweet reports". Cowboys scouting director Tom Ciskowski has mentioned that he thought he was one of their top 3 UDFA's this year.

Also, a couple articles i've read about him:

If you actually read the articles, you can see how he has made an impression on the organization all through TC and preseason..

That is, if you actually read them with an open mind and not your preconditioned thought that no one has even thought of him before the forced fumble.. as silly as that is.

I did read the article.

Coaches told some media guys to keep an eye on a top 3 UDFA...he is a "player."

He impressed so much that he didn't do anything but special teams work until this past weekend.

Blah blah.

I'm not impressed.

This reminds me of the overreaction in the other direction when people wanted to cut BW.

There were two articles..

And actually, he got quite a bit of playing time on defense in the Arizona game. Had 5 tackles and was very active.

Luckily though, no one is worried about how impressed you are with any particular player.

Yes, two articles...both written today...with perfect hindsight!

As to whether people should be impressed with my opinions on any particular player? They shouldn't be.

You see i'm not one of those pretentious posters who think they know better than the coaches, the GM and the scouting personnel. I'll leave that keyboard tweet scouting to you and yours.

This is the first time the guy has gotten any shine. He was behind Church, Allen, Wilcox, Johnson, Frampton and Hamilton.

Actually, that's EXACTLY what kind of poster you are if you think this is the first time Jeff Heath has made an impression on anyone in our organization since we signed him..

Frampton and Johnson have been injured and Heath has outplayed Hamilton. Hamilton has had all the "shine" since he was signed but Heath has been the guy getting the quiet buzz in TC. Heath is actually bigger, faster and has assimilated the D quicker than the more highly touted Hamilton. Heath is also the better ST player.

No link, but I can vouch what Broaddus had to say about Cisowski's take on Heath from relatively early in camp. The scouts, at least, thought the guy had something. I remember it because he was not one of the CFAs I'd heard anything about at the time, so it caught my attention.

The fan overreaction is a bit silly, but then, our fans do overreact to winning about the same way they overreact to losing. If this team starts out hot, we'll be talking Suberbowls within three weeks.
