So are the gas powered plants. They had a large number of them go down. The fact of the matter is that we just can't plan for this type of event.

I've not cycled up the Gas-Pac furnace,nor an electric space heater thus far this winter, tho,I did turn my free standing oscillating fan OFF & nod off on the couch while wearing a pair of brown jersey cotton gloves ONE NITE

I was upset because my 94 year old Dad has been without power since 3am as has my 71 year old sister with MS. But I made an immediate rewording to remove the reference, then just deleted it completely.

My daughter lives in Plano and her power went out about 2:30 AM. It finally came back up about an hour ago and her apartment was 58 degree F.

wind farms up here in PA work just fine with snow storms out.

On this note. I think it’s just interesting because it shows how important infrastructure factors like that are.

like people mentioning the wind turbines earlier. Here in PA. They have ones built with de icing systems.

Years ago I was in Rwanda. And on the side of major roads. They had massive drainage systems built along the roads. Much larger than anything I’ve seen in my area of PA. But then I realized that there they have “rainy season” where they got a ton of rainfall in short periods of time. So those massive drainage systems are needed there. Much larger than would be typically needed in PA.

No power outages so far in Southeast Texas, but I bought a generator and a bunch of candles just in case. Thing is I've been cranking my older model Jeep, that I drive to work, so it doesn't act up on me. That sucks!

There were some in West Texas that iced up but over half are still working. And not only that, the Gulf wind farms are producing more than usual because of the high winds making up for some of the deficit.
