Respectfully... and I apologize for the way I came off, Jim, I just think the fandom has a right to be excited and hyped for this team, for the first time in a great while. I was incredibly reserved in 2014, but this year is different. Even those close wins at home stadiums are a dominance of sorts, Jim. Dominance can be shown in the form of team-moxie and clutch performances. I have followed two other teams from two other leagues religiously, with a combined three championships in the last 13 years (2 in the last 4), and I can draw a lot of parallels to those teams and this one, and that isn't hyperbole.
Weddle's said comments shouldn't be brushed off, that's ignorance -- and demeaning what he said is trite. But beyond that, we can be super-pumped (is that even a phrase, lol) for our team.
Again, respectfully, Jim. I'm sorry for the way I came across in my original OP to you, I was more just irritated with the overall tone of the thread.
Go Cowboys, kill the Ravens.
First of all: Go Cowboys, kill the Ravens! We can all get behind that.
Of course we can and should get excited and hyped about the team. I just find the wildness of the mood swings in this place hilarious, and I try to be clear-eyed. I mean, people are crowing in another thread about how the Eagles are nothing, and they took us to overtime just 3 weeks ago.
You judge the quality of a team by who they blow out, who they play close, and who blows them out.
Great teams blow out weaker opponents and never get blown out themselves. They play closer to .500 in the close games (this is obvious: if you never get blown out, the only games you lose are the close ones). Who wins the close games tells you less about your team than the fact that they were close games.
We've blown out four opponents and been blown out zero times. That's a great great indicator of our strength.
We played tight games against the Eagles, Steelers, Commanders, and Giants. Those teams can beat us if a few balls bounce their way. We're better than them based on how they've done in their other games, but we're not leaps and bounds ahead of them, at least not yet. We also played a tight game against the 49ers, but we dominated that one after the first quarter.
The Ravens are in the same mix as the teams we played tight (and the Packers and Bengals). If we blow them out, that's a great sign. If it's a nailbiter, no matter who wins, we look about the same as we do now. It's not like we're likely to go 15-1 this season.
