Loved Eric Williams, but Conrad Dobler might have something to say. He made the cover of Sports Illustrated based on only his viciousness…..lol.
Yeah Dobler was mean as hell.. and he had to be because he was not very talented. Just willing to do whatever it took!

Night Train Lane

But you could probably go back to a lot of old players.
They used to believe in hurting each other.
I remember a interview with Otis Sistrunk years ago who said there were guys in the NFL that did not care about the game at all; just wanted to hurt people without going to jail

Erik Williams wasn't the only mean one. Kevin Gogan had a nasty streak too.

Of course, all you have to do is listen to other team's retired veteran's stories about Larry Allen. Justin Tuck's story was hilarious:

Good video and I appreciate seeing Williams in action again to remind me of his nastiness to set the tone on those championship teams! But this also shows how urban legends get created. People on this board still talk about how Erik Williams made Reggie White quit in a game when it was William Fuller they meant according to this video. If it was White, then surely it would have been here, yes? I even remember saying that I bet it was something where John Madden went on and on about Williams in a game and sure enough that's what it was.

As for numbers, when I ran them White actually did alright against Williams in his career. As for Fuller, he had a sack in that game in Dallas in '94, had 1.5 sacks with Larry Allen starting at RT in the other game in '94, had 0, 1.5, and 0 sacks in the 3 games against Williams in '95 and then 1 and 0 sacks against Williams in '96 to complete his time with the Eagles. So likewise, he did okay.

Good stuff in the video even with some of the over-drama.
Erik Williams truly idolized Reggie White.Always spoke with Admiration when he was asked about him during their playing days. When White Passed away Big E went to his Funeral to Pay his Respect.
To him it was a point to take his game to another level when they faced each other.History shows how it translated to the On Field Performance. From the time Big E took over in late 1991 until 1997 they faced each other 10 Times including Playoff Games with Philadelphia and Green Bay. If the Stats at Pro Football Reference are Correct White had 3 Sacks in those games and was shut out in 7 of them.Williams Won the Player of Week Award as an Offensive Lineman for shutting him down in 1992 at Texas Stadium.

What Big E did in that 1995 NFC Championship Game turned that game around IMHO.White got a Sack on the 3rd Play of the Game but after that was completely dominated and neutralized by him.Didn't get close to sacking Troy Aikman or even making a single tackle the rest of that Game. The Physicality and Sheer Force that was put out there for that Game was on a level no Offensive Lineman has ever done considering the Opponent and the Importance of that Game.

Reggie White never "quit" against Erik Williams but when You look at the Stats Emmitt Smith put up in those games there was never a single game where White was a factor or Emmitt was shut down. 5 100 Yard Games including 2 in the Playoffs and the Cowboys were 8-2 against White's Teams from 1991-97 with Big E in the Lineup(he missed both games in 1994)

No Single Offensive Lineman ever handled Reggie White like Erik Williams.

Alternate reality: Jerry and Jimmy get along, and Erik Williams never has the car accident. We win 5 Lombardi's in a row.

Absolutely love that man. He was a football player. Guys like Martin and Diggs and D Flaw are dirty little worms in comparison.

Not unless in that same alternate reality Emmitt doesn't tear up his hammies in 1994. Much as I would love to believe we could have won 5 in a row that notion completely ignores the physical toll of playing 3-4 extra games at the end of the season. By 1995 the Cowboys had played 13 playoff games between 1991 and 1995. Basically a full EXTRA SEASON of highly leveraged, high intensity football! To pretend that was not going to begin to take its toll on players' bodies as they got older bespeaks a fundamental lack of respect and recognition of the beating these guys take. Ironically, I think if someone were to assemble a team as good as the 90's Cowboys in today's watered down NFL that team would have a far better chance of reeling off 5 in a row than those Cowboys teams did. The only challenge would be managing the cap and keeping the team together. But if you had a superstar like Brady who would set the tone by taking less money you might have a chance.
