Escobar
Escobar, a 2013 second-round pick, played just four snaps in last week's victory over the Houston Texans, the second fewest of his career.

"I guess it's tough to be patient," Escobar said. "You got to take advantage of your opportunities when your name is called, and that’s what I’m trying to do."

Escobar said he was surprised by the lack of playing time this season, but it's attributed to several things: Jason Witten is the starter and an elite tight end, Murray has had success on the ground and Escobar has struggled as a run blocker.

Tight end James Hanna gets more playing time than Escobar because he's a better blocker.

"We have a lot of plays and packages for him to get out there," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said of Escobar. "Sometimes you get a chance to call those things. Other times you are doing different things to try to win the games. So he's ready. He is getting better. He is healthier than he has been. He did a good job fighting through his injury. Hopefully he will get some chances as we go here."

Escobar was dealing with a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder and a sprained MCL in his left knee that slowed his development. But now he's healthy and continues to wait for his chance.

People that were wrong on several aspects of this team are desperately clinging to be right on something.
Off-season claims by some people in this thread:
Cowboys go 3-13 or worse.
Hitchens can't play. Wasted 4th round pick.
Durant should be cut.
Carter can't play.
R. McClain not worth the trouble.
Mincey can't play.
Crawford overrated.
Romo is done.
Leary not very good.
Cowboys have the worst Safeties in the league.

Hey, didn't say Hitchens could not play, just lamented picking a backup player instead of picking potential starter. Secondary complaint was that it was reach pick. But admit he's turning into a very valuable utility LB.

Escobar is in the midst of a tough situation in Dallas. On one hand, he isn't likely to take many passing attempts away from Witten. On the other hand, he's highly unlikely to extract blocking opportunities away from Hanna, who may not be the cat's meow as a blocker but is markedly better than Escobar. It may take either Witten's retirement or perhaps his being traded to another team for him to see enough action to make a difference.

probably because we are running the football so well...witten and hanna are killing it with this beast of a line we got now.

escobar was drafted with the grander we would have two te's that would wreak havoc catching the ball.

well ...we are a run team now...escobar can not block so in essence...it's now a wasted draft pick.

he should still be looked at in the red zone though.

It's sort of early in the season to be passing judgments.

Linehan is still sorting things out offensively.

As many have said..he was drafted with visions of the Patriots blueprint.

It may still come to pass.

Watch what happens if DeMarco goes down and we can't move the ball on the ground.

Back to 2 TE sets more with Escobar.

What happened to this guy? Hanna had 20 and Devin Street had 15. Is it that Hanna is that much better of a blocker? Is it Linehan likes the three receever sets? What?

1. They ran the ball several times when Street was in the game. The defense probably replaced a LB with a DB when Street was in the game in place of a TE. Houston was thin at DB.

2. When Hanna plays, he is usually blocking. He's been a very good blocker.

3. Escobar has a bad shoulder. It's probably not a big deal as a receiver, but it's probably makes it difficult to block.

4. If Witten was out, Escobar would likely get more snaps than Hanna.

It's OK to have some depth on the team.

Like Fasano and Bennett I'm sure he could go on to have a decent carer elsewhere, fir us he was just another premium draft pick wasted
