You have to get impact players in the first couple of rounds. Interior OL simply aren.t

Backup tight ends are impact players? We would've been just fine with Hanna.

And interior linemen are when you can't keep you're franchise quarterback upright otherwise. With that said I was fine with no Warford but Logan would've been nice. And if we were going to take a luxury pick I would've preferred Lacy since our starter is injury prone. And due to his injuries no desire to extend him to a big deal after 2014

You can argue about whether or not Esco was a good pick all day. That's not really the point.

My reply was to you stating interior linemen aren't impact players in the first few rounds. And I elaborated from there. So backup tightends are in fact impact players?

He wasn't drafted as a backup, and he wasn't an impact player because he wasn't used.

I beg to differ. If they truly wanted to use the 12 personnel we would've seen a stronger commitment. And with our roster that wasn't an impact selection in my eyes when Hanna would've been fine.

He wasn't used because almost every report said he was a liability with his blocking. Plain and simple. It's been out there since last preseason.

IMO, the jury is still out on Escobar...I personally like him as a player and I think he was the 2nd best TE in the draft...had the team committed to utilizing the passing end of the 12-package last season, then I think he would have been the right guy...plus, the tutelage he is getting from Jason has to count for something...I think he may turn out to be pretty good, but, like the last several TE picks, if you aren't going to use them, then don't draft them....of course, Escobar needs to learn how to block more effectively as well

I would hope more this year for the TE position to get something like 80 catches for 10 TDs, but that we don't have tie situation where 95% of that goes to one guy...people talk about drafting a WR assuming Dallas cuts bait with Austin...I say forget a WR as we already have Williams, but if escobar gets used more, that takes care of need for another WR

There are a lot of reasons a rookie may not have played and not all of them are improper use of a player. I expected more but I was not being reasonable with my expectations. It takes a while to get used to the speed of play when you step up in competition. You have to learn the terminology and it needs to be automatic. And you have to learn to run the routes, run them properly, and do all that and get separation. And you've got to learn he hot reads and what to do when a play breaks down. And just as importantly you have to gain the trust of your QB. That's a lot to ask.

agreed. and those are some of the reasons I am willing to give this guy time; some of this is on him (his development and connection with tony) and the rest can be attributed to scheme....let's see if there is improvement next season

One thing on my mind after watching the playoffs the last two weeks. I'd like to see Dallas use Escobar down the seam inside the 25's. I think he has the body, height and hands for it. San Fran with Davis, Pats when they have Gronk...I just see why this option continues to be ignored with Escobar to get him going, implemented into the scheme somehow. I know we've seen it with Witten a few TDs this year in that area but I think that play needs to transition to Escobar and start getting productivity out of that draft pick.

The only reason the Escobar pick was anyy good at all is he gets a chance to develop, and more than a few of us have been down on this organization for not sticking with players long enough to allow them to develop. Lately that has changed and we can look at Oscan and one or two others as getting a chance to develop into useful players.

With Escobar though i think the pick was not a smart one, they could have gotten a TE next year and a shored up the oline or dline at his pick, it may be he will be a good TE in the future but this team proves over and over that they do not know how to BUILD a team. If you go best player available then I don't think Escobar is the pick, Jimmy got players, not needs.
