I keep going back to last year's pick of Escobar and scratching my head and wondering why they would take him when there were a couple of highly rated guards on the board (including Warford) when we were on the clock and selected Escobar. We could have avoided paying Water's salary last year by taking a guy like Warford.

In my mind about the only way that the Escobar pick makes sense is if Jason Witten's days (and cap hit) are numbered and we were looking for his replacement.

You are giving them way too much credit. And for my money. Jason Witten is about the only player I really like on the whole team.

Escobar was Garrett's consolation prize for not getting to take Eifert in the 1st(imagine the yelling on here if we had spent a 1st on a TE and didn't use him)

warford wasnt on the cowboys board
Which hopefully is part of the reason McClay is now in charge of setting up the board

Sometimes it happens that rookies make their greatest developmental leap forward in their second year. It's hard to say with any real conviction exactly how he'll look by this time next year. I haven't given up on him yet but suffice it to say, the burden of proof is yet to be seen as to whether or not that 2nd round pick was justified.

I understand everybody's frustration in the Escobar pick since we had so many other needs to be addressed. Also, given the Fasano and Martellus picks in past years.

But if you can put all that aside, Escobar has the potential to be really good. He has to get stronger and this offseason will be huge for him. He needs to be a better blocker. Right now, he is better athletically than Witten and catches everything thrown to him. He just needs to hit the weight room and learn how to play the position. He has one of the best in Witten he can take lessons from.

I think he will be a very good player in the near future. This draft pick will start to look better as he becomes a more important target in future years.

The GM got sold a bag of nothing ,, with all the 12 personel talk. Per B.Broaddus, I dont think the team valued Warford much. I wish they had selected Bennie Logan DT

Witten's days are numbered but they still need his leadership. Dan Campbell was a great mentor for Witten and I feel Witten can do the same for Escobar.

I agree, though, that Escobar is his eventual replacement and should be given a fair opportunity to beat him (Witten) out in TC. The key for Escobar is to get stronger this off-season and work on his blocking. I think he has talent.

Esco was, and still is, a good pick.

That Redheaded suck bag just doesn't know how to get him the dang football.

People keep clamoring for Warford, but what team would spend a first and second round pick on the interior of the OL? Thats dumb to me.

It would only be dumb if we didnt have turn styles as our guards and center in 2012. I was watching and waiting for the Warford pick and then BAM..huh? reminded me of the Felix Jones pick...Watching for Mendenhalls name...waiting...waiting...and the Dallas Cowboys ....Select........Felix..HUHHHH?...Jones...Arkansas

then again, I would have been ok with 4 offensive line picks.

49ers drafted Davis and Iupati both in the first round. How dumb does that look to you?

Look at the roster on the day that Escobar was drafted.
D-line looked legit at that point.

Disagree completely. We knew we had age and depth problems, thus the debate on taking Floyd in the 1st round. Most of the predraft was about Dline and safety. We knew the deal on all of those guys and knew there was no room to spare. Nothing about it is hindsight because it was assumed we would hit those areas.

D-line looked legit at that point.

If by legit you mean:

*A 31-year old DE who hasn't looked right in two years.
*A 32-year old DT who hadn't played in two years.
*A 31-year old DT on the final year of his contract who's been a career backup.
*A 29-year old DE who was injured, on the last year of his contract, and recorded his first 10+ sack season.

then I agree, they looked legit.
