I saw on another thread that Escobar had a single snap on offense this past week, and does not currently appear to be injured. I really don't know what conclusion to draw from this other than they really don't think he is worth a **** and is a waste of space.

Having said that, why is he still occupying a roster spot? Why haven't we just moved on from this failed experiment?

It simply means that the 49ers were getting their skulls crushed in by the Cowboys run game, so keep Swaim in and keeping smashing away.

Next week could be different.

Swain is not a great blocker ,he justs puts his body in front of the Defender and hope for the best.

I would not say his future here looks bright. Expect a sudden injury and IR when Hanna is ready.

I think Bryan Broaddus said it best. Escobar was drafted for 12 personnel offense and Dallas has since then has moved to 11 personnel offense. Unfortunate for both sides, but it's pretty clear that Dallas will move on from Escobar.

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if he is yet another 2nd round te that flourishes elsewhere.

Still like that we took him one spot before Leveon bell tho

Except for all the 12 personnel we've run with Hanna and Swaim.

I thought Escobar was the best blocker of the 3 in preseason. The coaches benched him so what do I know?

Compared to Escobar, he's Anthony Munoz.

Not so much. Swaim lacks core and upper body strength and it shows.

Escobar uses his length to his advantage and with quick hands does a good job getting inside. He has the upper body strength to hold on and steer. His core strength is not idea but still good enough to drive some DE. In pass protection its not close; his hands and vertical agility to wall off rushers is better than Witten or Swaim.

I also find it hard to fathom that his achilles is fully healed. Maybe this injury is no longer a career ender like it was ten years ago.

I'm really at a lost when it comes to Escobar, I believe the talent is there he's just not getting the clock for some reason.

His catch radius is better than Witten or Swaim, he can do things as a receiver that neither one of them can do. I just don't understand it at all, and when Escobar leaves I fully expect for him to make an impact on another team.

Its utterly ridiculous that we can't get this guy on the field at some point, not like he has some obvious character flaw like Bennett.

I just don't get it at all.

Before the start of last year, Escobust was making a bit of a name for himself as a TD maker, as his pace of 1 TD per 3 catches was fairly historic even considering the low number of snaps. Now he just seems to have very little utility. He might also be another "Romo" player...

the least we could do is use him in the red zone, the fact that we are not even doing that now when Escobar has shown he can be a reliable RZ target is indeed baffling.

Agreed.

Its a long season and Hanna is still out.

He's done here. Still young though, it will be interesting to see what he can do for another team next year

Yet ANOTHER wasted 2nd round pick. That's THREE FREAKING TIGHT ENDS drafted in the 2nd round, and NOT A SINGLE ONE is/was worth a damn.

My God.

Bennett was actually pretty good. He was an ok player with us, he just wanted more money and that's what he got. The evaluation was there with Bennett, just didn't use him.

Escobar sucks though, can't remember the other second round tight end you're referring to.

EDIT: Forgot about Fasano, much like Bennett though. It's not like he's a bad player, not even all bad for us, just misused.

I'm beating a dead horse. He's never been used right and never will be. He's great in the red zone. He's proved that. He's never in there and Swaim is a better blocker at this point. I like Swaim too, though. He's got an edge to him. That's how it is. Don't worry because he'll be on a different team next year and that team will probably get 70 catches out of him because they know he's a receiver
