Wow! Right about now Gifford is probably having continuous flashbacks of the Bednariks hit, Merridith is getting as drunk as any man in the history of drunk and Cosell is turning the sky blue, in Latin of course.

Sad day for MNF.

Great job of putting it into perspective.

Monday Night Football has a great history. The music, the moments, the personalities.

It now moves to ESPN (yuck) with Joe Theismann in the booth (double yuck), which basically means that the page has officially turned. A great part of the history of the NFL has ended. It will never be the same.

At least we have the history.

I remember finding it HILARIOUS how Michaels was CONSTANTLY bringing up the Terence Newman no-call on his PI vs. Rod Gardner (Newman grabbed his jersey, but didn't really affect Gardner's chances at catching the ball)...

But MNF at Seattle, after Jerry Rice's BLATANT pushoff on Nate Jones (that gave Rice the TD) wasn't called and the PI call somehow went against Nate Jones, Michaels didn't even comment on it. Acted like it was totally legit since Jerry Rice is Jerry Rice.

^^oh yeah, that still infuriates me.

His reasoning was that it was Jerry Rice and he will get away with it. He was actually thrilled at the whole concept. But then he went nuts about the Key TD when he only got one foot down...failing to point out the contact made making it a force out TD.

I don't know about you all, but I am going to get **** canned on Monday nights just to put up with it.

I seriously dont think any fans, of any teams like Theisman. He is just dreadful.
Him getting MNF doesnt even make sense as far as popularity goes.

Coming from a skinz fan speaks volumes.

So will Michaels still be talking about the non-call by Newman against Gardner or the bad call on the Johnson TD in 2006?

michaels isn't horrible though he is a huge 49er fan as well as an east coast fan. theisman is the horrible selection here. i don't know how he keeps getting gigs...nobody likes him. i know a ton of skins' fans who hate the guy.

I re-watched the first Dallas-Commanders game of last season recently.

I remembered Michael's reaction to the Anderson to Glenn TD was pitiful, but just how pitiful I had forgotten.

EVERY single camera angle clearly showed TD. Gibbs had contested it and rightly so, but one view after another confirmed TD. Michaels thought it wasn't a TD before he had seen even one replay, and refused to change his mind, even tho Madden was saying with every view, "that's a good call - touchdown".

When the call wasn't overturned, Michaels said, "well, there just wasn't enough to overturn it", in a disappointed tone, as tho the verdict was in ANY way close.

Before that game, I thought the takes on Michaels' bias were exaggerated, or even paranoid.

I thought wrong.

And they wonder why their ratings are plummeting. Get rid of the clowns and the people will come back.

I watched it with Giants fans and even they were appalled.

Well, more like amused.

And now he's coupled with that Notre Dame shilling ex-Skins goofball.

I was feeling Theisman has gotten "better" lately, tho I can't really define how or why.

But Michaels will set him back whatever progress he may have made.

Well, I think you kinda have to be careful what you wish for. What I mean is if we get rid of these guys then whats the marquee sales pitch Clown Colleges all over the world use as a recruiting tool?

Graduate from XYZ Clown College and you can no longer hope to become a color analyst on MNF?

I just don't think it has the same kinda drawing power if you know what I mean.

No, for reasons such as this, I'm not in favor of removing the Clowns form the booth at this time. Just too rash I say.

Michaels: And here comes Jerry Rice- err, the Great Jerry Rice, into the game for the Broncos! The Raider defense adjusts by bringing in nine cornerbacks and two safeties.

Theisman: Al, I visited with Bronco Head Coach Mike Shanahan for over thirteen-and-a-half hours yesterday not to mention I was invited to stay at the home of Wide Recievers coach Steve Watson for the entire week...and one of the things they both told me was Jerry Rice can still play!

Michaels: I agree. There's no doubt he's got another ten, maybe twelve years in him at least, Joe! Do you believe in miracles?!?!?

Theisman: Yeah! Me sitting next to you right now is proof! By the way Al, Raider Owner Al Davis begged me to visit him at his hotel Thursday night. We were banging back a few cold ones in the hot tub when he admitted to me that getting Rice from the 49ers was a coup. Basically, they had no choice but to trade him two seasons ago because he just didn't fit this Norv Turner offense.

Michaels: Ahh, the 49ers! I absolutely miss Jerry standing on the San Francisco sideline wearing that heavy unbrushed cotton cap with the beautiful and mystical, raised 49er embroidered team logo on front!

I have not watched MNF since Howard left- it was him and Dandy Don and Gifford that made that show- it was never the same once they were gone. It was just another game without them. They could make the worst game possible fun; did not matter the score.

Funny stuff, Waffle!

Let's not forget the other ESPN Niner Homer...Boomer. The supposedly 'objective' studo analyst who was actually ORDERED by Tags to return the Super Bowl ring the 9ers Front office had given him.

Maybe they can work Berman into the halftime, as well as the pre-game buffoonery.

Thanks B! There's no question both Berman and Michaels worship at the altar of Bill Walsh and Co. Why do you think Berman demanded Steve Young as his sidekick on ABC Wild Card studio work?

The one thing I'm really going to miss is Mike Patrick calling a 2 yard run up the middle as if it were a 90 yard bomb for a TD. I guess I'll have to catch him calling College games on Saturdays for that. :)
