The next move is for the Titans to see how much they really want to move Adam (Pacman) Jones. The Cowboys reportedly have offered a player and a seventh-round draft pick, and it would appear that they are the only team willing to take a chance on acquiring Jones while he is on suspension. With the Patriots, Lions and others not being as active as the Cowboys, the Titans can accept the terms or hope other teams jump into the action. The interesting part of the Cowboys position is that they are willing to make a firm offer instead of a conditional one. Once the player -- whoever he is -- is traded, there is no way the deal would be voided if Pacman remain suspended. Under those conditions, the Titans might be willing to move quickly.

Edwards made an impression: Al Davis doesn't forget a great performance, which is a major reason why Kalimba Edwards is a Raider today. Edwards agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Raiders Friday. With the Lions in the 2007 season opener, Edwards two sacks and five tackles against the Raiders. Edwards had only one sack the rest of the season and finished the year with a knee injury. He is expected to start ahead of defensive end Jay Richardson.

Raiders' ripple effect: The signing of Edwards clears the path for Tommy Kelly to move to defensive tackle for the Raiders. Kelly signed a seven-year, $52.5 million contract before the start of free agency with the thought he would move from defensive end to defensive tackle. Over the past week, the team had serious thoughts about re-signing one-time Raider Grady Jackson. Had that happened, Kelly could have stayed at end. Signing Edwards takes the Raiders out of the defensive line market unless the team wants to use the fourth pick in the draft on LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey -- if Dorsey's available at No. 4.

Salary cap room to breathe: The Seahawks were concerned about being tight against the cap. They had more than $9 million of their cap eaten up by the Marcus Trufant franchise tag. Now that Trufant signed a six-year, $50.2 million deal, the Seahawks have plenty of room. His contract saved the team $6.7 million of cap room. After his deal, the Seahawks had $13.9 million of room, which is why they had no problem giving kicker Olindo Mare a two-year, $3.5 million deal. They would like to get an extension with linebacker LeRoy Hill, too.

Firm offer instead of conditional? Jerry is a gambler. The Titans should accept before Jerry changes his mind.

Also, Jerry must have information that Pacman's suspension will be lifted to make a firm offer.

I wonder who this "player" is?

My guess is that it's Terry Glenn-as they're desperate to get Young some weapons, and they themselves want to take a gamble on him and his shot knees?

Akin or Carpenter. I would lean towards Carpenter. Young, some NFL experience, and he doesn't fit well here.

Akin Ayodele.

AA played for Jax, a team that shares similar defensive schemes with their AFCS rivals Titans.

Makes sense

Plus he just lost his job here to Zach Thomas.

Actually, I'm getting kinda pissed at the Titans right now. If we offered them a bag of chips for Pacman, they should be jumping at it. Now it seems as even though they aren't going to keep him, they want more for him. "Oh, he is a first round player, we should get some serious compensation for him." Ummm, yea, and we should just give you our draft for a guy who is a lap dance away from being suspended for the league permanently. Just take the trade and move on, and be happy that you get something in return, especially a player.

is this boob ever right about anything? Never mind the fact that the Lions said over a week ago they arnt trading for Jones, and basically the Pats did the same...what "options" is goober referring to? Also, I'll believe a player is really part of the deal when I see it...however goober doesnt point out that 1) the draft pick itself might be conditional and 2) the "player" might be somebody we want to get rid of anyway

There was some discussion on ESPN's The Huddle yesterday where someone talking to Clayton felt that our NFC East rivals should get involved and not let Jones be obtained for a "mere" late round pick.

Coverage on the Sirius NFL Radio yesterday was sympathetic to the Titans. A few of the hosts there felt that permitting Jones to go to the Cowboys was, in effect, a reward for bad behavior. Those folks felt that the Titans should receive some kind of escalated reward based upon Jones' performance for the Cowboys.

One thing is certain, Jerry has a way of keeping many eyes on the Cowboys....even during March Madness.

Carps cap hit would be something like 4 million if we traded him. That's a lot considering the situation we're in.

Not to mention we would be selling at an all time possible low.

I'd hate to trade our LB depth for CB depth.

We deal Akin, then we're off a man at LB.

I'd be willing to pay a higher pick (conditional) to keep the roster intact. That is, of course, that we feel we cannot improve a LB spot in the near future. Perhaps Akin won't be a good STer and too much money to backup ZT and BJ.

Akin isn't a starter. Zack will start and makes Akin replaceable.

that and I am sure that Akin is going to want to get a starting job somewhere which he would in Tenn. its a win win situation for all parties involved.

they get a starting LBer and get rid of jones
Akin is happy.
We get Jones to play in our secondary.

Yes, this is true. But our LB corps is becoming like our CB group last year. One injury and we're a bit shallow in the middle. Can Burnett fill in every down? Can Carp step foot on the field?

I'm fine with Akin for Pacman (since Pacman adds more depth than Akin currently provides), so long as we don't get thin elsewhere.

I could be wrong but I don't think its Akin. If Zach gets another concussion and Burnett gets hurt again (very probable) then who do we have? Carpenter maybe...but I don't think the coaching staff is too comfortable with him. I don't think Akin has missed any games due to injury yet so he is dependable in that aspect. I think its Terry Glenn.

I saw Kalimba play when I was going to USC (South Carolina). He was a beast until he blew out his knee. I was still hoping the Cowboys would get him as an ILB or depth at OLB. However, that contract is a bit much for what he can offer at this point.
