The next move is for the Titans to see how much they really want to move Adam (Pacman) Jones. The Cowboys reportedly have offered a player and a seventh-round draft pick, and it would appear that they are the only team willing to take a chance on acquiring Jones while he is on suspension. With the Patriots, Lions and others not being as active as the Cowboys, the Titans can accept the terms or hope other teams jump into the action. The interesting part of the Cowboys position is that they are willing to make a firm offer instead of a conditional one. Once the player -- whoever he is -- is traded, there is no way the deal would be voided if Pacman remain suspended. Under those conditions, the Titans might be willing to move quickly.
Edwards made an impression: Al Davis doesn't forget a great performance, which is a major reason why Kalimba Edwards is a Raider today. Edwards agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Raiders Friday. With the Lions in the 2007 season opener, Edwards two sacks and five tackles against the Raiders. Edwards had only one sack the rest of the season and finished the year with a knee injury. He is expected to start ahead of defensive end Jay Richardson.
Raiders' ripple effect: The signing of Edwards clears the path for Tommy Kelly to move to defensive tackle for the Raiders. Kelly signed a seven-year, $52.5 million contract before the start of free agency with the thought he would move from defensive end to defensive tackle. Over the past week, the team had serious thoughts about re-signing one-time Raider Grady Jackson. Had that happened, Kelly could have stayed at end. Signing Edwards takes the Raiders out of the defensive line market unless the team wants to use the fourth pick in the draft on LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey -- if Dorsey's available at No. 4.
Salary cap room to breathe: The Seahawks were concerned about being tight against the cap. They had more than $9 million of their cap eaten up by the Marcus Trufant franchise tag. Now that Trufant signed a six-year, $50.2 million deal, the Seahawks have plenty of room. His contract saved the team $6.7 million of cap room. After his deal, the Seahawks had $13.9 million of room, which is why they had no problem giving kicker Olindo Mare a two-year, $3.5 million deal. They would like to get an extension with linebacker LeRoy Hill, too.
