As a part of the group that said we needed to move Dez around, I will just say... we won that argument! lol

Too bad it has taken 5 years for it to sink into JG's head.

The worse part is if you look back you can see them put him in the slot on occasion and it almost always resulted in good things. Even in the Giants game he had a safety on him and almost had a big TD. There have been numerous other times that he ran crossing routes from the slot and made catches with LBs trying to cover him.

He probably feels like a butterfly operating in the slot

Honestly. I believe the coaches have done the best they could with Dez. He is hard to get the ball to... once he gets it he is a killer and can do serious damage. But, during his 7+ yrs in Dallas he has learned about 3 routes and is too slow. I like him and he is an asset but he has always had certain limits and the coaches realise it.
And what routes are those? I'm curious why you people keep pulling this garbage out of your ***. He knows three routes, he's not smart enough to play the slot, he doesn't know the plays, etc. put some facts behind your garbage.

Yes, but the reason they moved Dez around in the last game was to get him away from Norman at times. Expect things to return to the unimaginative Sunday when he faces normal corners.

Let's hope not.

lol. Dez's stats and record speak for itself. No baiting by me. I like Dez. The club can not move him around. He is too slow for the slot...LB's will takehis head off...he is too slow for go routes..can not get behind DBs. His only asset is as a jump ball specialist in the redzone. That is what he is great at. Get him the ball in tight spots in the redzone and because he is big and strong he will score. Regarding route running or precise timing routes...forget about it. Dez is no Irvin or Rice. He has never learned that. His specialty is the power jump ball. Its all he as ever learned or done. He has a place on the club...but he is grossly over rated. If a QB can not hit him on the numbers in the redzone he simple disappears.

I'm just speculating, but they obviously had a plan for what the wanted from Dez to help Dak in the opener. The idea that it just never occurred to Linehan to move Dez around is pretty silly if you stop to think about it.

No no no. This is where you're all wrong friend. It's not silly at all. In fact, for many on here it's probable.

As a fan it's much more enjoyable to believe that 1) our coaches are inept, incompetent morons, and 2) you could get up off of your couch, step out of your living room and onto the sideline and immediately be an upgrade over Garrett, Linehan and co.

Linehan probably has access to the internet on this Surface Pro TM. He could just google 'route tree' like the rest of us and go through them all and find the ones that Dez likes, can't he? You'd think after seven years they'd have a pretty good idea. Or maybe Dak or somebody mentions it because of what his coach told him back in high school or college and they google it and then give it a try or whatever.

yeah but it still doesn't explain why they were reluctant to move him around.

He used to only be able to run a go, fade, or slant pattern and had no idea how to release through a jam other than trying to bull rush. Recall him not crossing the face of the defender on an in route leading to an easy pick or consistently tied up at the line of scrimmage? He only really started running the comeback, in, out, post, drag etc plus inside/outside releases since Linehan came in.

He wasn't moved because he barely knew how to play the Z. 2 years ago the light really started to come on and he is more of a complete receiver doing double moves and lining up all over the formation.

It does seem like a lot of work. Maybe one of our guys here could tweet him about it? It'd be a cool way to do our part for the cause here at CZ.

So his 7 catches were all on jump balls last week? good to know

Rookie QB, rookie RB. God forbid that we try and take it a little easy on those guys on game one.

It didn't work?

Ok, we try something different in game two.

I don't think it's much more complicated than that to be honest.
