I dunno. These kind of moves makes me 'think' the coach has his act together.

Rather than promote from within deserved or not, as has been the case for years, bring in a dude that's legit.

Maybe Columbo is the' rah-rah this is what you need to do on game day' guy but not defined as a day to day coach.

JMO, of course.

It's hard to isolate the effects of position coaches with the OC and an offensive-minded HC above them in the organization, but Callahan was a heck of an OL coach to have lost. Pollack definitely put in his time, and he may be a great coach in his own right for all we know, but it's definitely a place where you have to expect we're probably going to lose some effectiveness going into the season until proven otherwise. Fortunately, that young OL is also getting more experience as we go and so there's room for improvement from them, too, in that regard. So it may offset some of whatever we lose with the veteran coach leaving.

I think building the OL is the hard part. Once you find them they don't usually drop off. That is why I give Tony Wise full credit for building that Cowboys OL and not Houck. And Wise developed 3 holdovers in Tuinei, Newton, and Gogan. Guys that were not well thought of at the time. I bet the majority of the media would have named Crawford Ker as the best lineman at that time.

Yes, Tony Wise didn't get enough credit.

Houck didn't show up until Jimmy's final year.

Who knows? Colombo seems to have Coach written all over him, but they were more comfortable going this route for some reason. We'll probably never get enough info to know what really factored into the decision.

I think it due time he will. But now isn't the time for us to be experimenting with another coach in the waiting. I think Colombo's role is perfect for him. He can learn more about coaching the old timers and yet be of a value by teaching technique and skill to players. I just feel they did the right call with someone who had experience with the zone blocking scheme and someone that can work with Linehan. Thus having someone on board like Looney the oline won't be missing a beat and will continue doing what its doing best.
