IRVING -- If the season ended today, the Cowboys would get a Top 10 pick in the draft. Dallas is tied with Arizona and San Francisco for picks six or seven.

NFL draft expert Mel Kiper thinks the Cowboys might trade down here because the offensive line is a need. But Kiper projects some offensive linemen to go later in the first round so moving down isn't out of the question.

Read what else Kiper thinks: http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4675958/cowboys-could-trade-down-in-draft

Thats why I want to see some Sam Young this year. If hes something then we dont need to use such an important pick on the position. You can then trade up for a pro-bowl CB

Well if they like offensive linemen then they need to trade up from the 2nd round. It would be a HUGE mistake to pass up on a top 10 pick with our last years draft.

agreed

Yeah, well since they may stay where they are or they may move up.....

I say hes got at least a 33% chance to be right.

I'm cool with moving down if the top talent is gone. With 2 picks in the 2nd round we could still land two very good offensive linemen in that round alone and have a bunch of other picks to play with in acquiring DL and secondary players.

I don't think we have a shot at Peterson really, but of course, anything can happen. Maybe he'll get fat by the combine.

Moving down from say 10 to 24 can net you some serious picks.

If all our guys are gone, I have no problem with us trading down. But I don't want Jerry to get in the draft pick hoarding mind state he was in before, we need impact players that can push some of the more complacent vets on this team.

We've been needing to churn this roster for 2-3 years now but Wade was so insistent on 'family'.

Depends on who is available when we are drafting. We have other needs besides OL.

No joke. There are a small handful of players on this roster I believe you can say are "locked in" as starters. Meaning, you'd be hard pressed to do a lot better.

The rest? Competition, competition, competition.

Hoarding picks only works if you have the proper talent eval to make it pay off. I don't think anyone would look at us and think that, and with the wash of the '09 draft, we really need to hit on some quality picks this year. We simply don't have the typical "hit or miss" window because we start behind the eight ball.

You're right, it's all relative.

But if I know Jerry like I know Jerry, we're going to look to upgrade CB, DL, and S very early in the draft. We'll probably even reach for a guy or two, the holes we have on this team are very apparent and I'd rather us address the OL in free agency. We can't afford to have rookies protecting our franchise QB during the prime of his career.

If recent history has taught us anything it's that if the Cowboys trade down then fans shouldn't expect any serious talent or difference makers from the draft. The Cowboys are notoriously horrible at trading down and finding value and do a much better job when they stay put.

There will be a DL to draft. I don't think you want to drop out of the top ten.

Really think it depends on who is on the board at our pick as well as what offers get made to move to our spot.

Everyone has to remember that "trading down" doesn't mean we trade out of the first round (as some seem to think) or even that we trade to late 1st round. If we are at Pick 8-9 and a player is there the team with the 13-15 pick wants we may be able to trade down 4-6 spots and pick up an additional 2nd rounder.

Exactly. We do need more than just OL but if the top OL prospect are expected to start falling in the mid 1st rd and we can pick up an additional 2nd Dallas would still be able to address other areas with top picks.

The draft is top heavy though, so I would prefer not to trade down.

I think the best move would be to solidify the OL through free agency. Offensive linemen don't usually contribute immediately as rookies due to their need to get stronger, and we need help at the OL position now, before our window with Romo closes. RT is a need NOW. I can't see us going into next season with Columbo as the primary option at RT.

I think Free stays, Gurode stays, Kosier probably stays if the money is right. With that being said I cannot see us starting next year with the same starters on the OL. Davis has been bashed pretty hard this year, but he might play better if Columbo isn't getting beaten so often.

Davis contract pays out more than he is worth next year. Dallas very well may look to FA but I doubt we will pickup 2 OL in FA, the cost of getting quality players in FA is quite high. Dallas may not get a OL in the 1st rd of this draft but if they choose to there are some very good prospects out there and it should not be ruled out.
