ESPN Dallas: Cowboys could trade down in draft

Colombo is servicable. Davis needs competition. Serious competition. If they can find Colombo's replacement and provide competition at RG then fine.

Im tired of these bum late round OT's... just secure your offensive line with a stud OT in the first round or 2nd. Anything else is simply a project. Im tired of "projects" and wasted draft picks.

No but i can see us trading up for Patrick Peterson or Princ Amukamara. We need another solid CB and then we need the best OL, S we can get our hands on in rounds 2-4.

If there is an offensive or defensive linemen where Dallas picks and if has the grade, they better take one. Take the best player between the two of them.

It would take a bounty to get me to move down, especially too far down.

Marc Colombo is done.

Leonard Davis is right behind him, nipping at his heels. He sure isn't a worth paying $ 6 million dollars to in 2011. You could draft a guard in round three and probably get more consistent play, imo.

On the other hand, A.J. Green has a great chance to be a major force in the NFL, imo. That guy is legit. If he drops, what if he is the best player on the board. What if he is better than all the linemen on the board. Can you imagine Bryant and Green on the same field? Of course, if you can't block guys, it will not matter... That is the problem on offense right now.

I'd look at Mallet and Newton, too.

I'm not knocking Romo, but QBs don't grow on trees. You don't know when you will be in a position to draft another one.

Dallas is paying for drafting poorly in the offensive line. They gave Davis all that money and vowed to develop on the o-line, and they have one guy to show for. This draft will mark four years later.

They ended up with Robert Brewster in 2009, and they passed on Andy Levitre, who would have already replaced Kosier, all things being equal. However, this is Dallas. They passed on Phil Loadholt, who would be playing RT in Dallas instead of Minnesota. Loadholt and Levitre were on the board, and Dallas traded down and drafted Brewster. While Edwards was playing merry-go-round with Marc Colombo in Minnesota, Loaddholt was starting for the Vikings. Most of you know this. Furthermore, Colombo is still here. That makes it even worse.

nope.He should be cut this season and would have been had we had a better option.

Why is it that the talent is always off the board once we pick? I for one am only into trading down if we can land another premium pick for next year.

If I remember correctly, numerous teams were looking to trade down last year but couldn't find some team willing to give much.

If Peterson, Amukamara, Fairley, Bowers, and Dareus are all gone by the time we pick in the first round, then I agree it would probably be best to look at trading down. However, if any one of the names listed above are still available then we need to keep our pick and take someone who will address a real need.

It's kind of a weird irony that we have had such a disappointing season, yet not quite disappointing enough to guarantee we get a pick that's high enough to help us immediately improve. We'll just have to hope for the best.

Wow, so the Cowboys "could move down"???

god i want to slap people saying we need ANOTHER freaking corner that high in the draft.. slap yourself save me the trouble

You find a safety, ol, or BPA...

i like BPA that high.. and if it happens to be a corner well then so be it..but .. rather have almost anything else..

edit..
We havent been getting consistent pressure this season if anything campo and our d coor needs to go . Revis and Sanders couldnt help us earlier int he year with the crap that was going on .. and still is to an extent. .. Also we have alan ball and Sensabaugh over the top.. were good at cb.

Seeing him this yr (especially the last couple of games) might not tell you anything. If he isnt ready to play, he'd look awful and you'd assume you needed more help.

Might not tell the fans anything, but I would hope the coaches and staff know better.

If recent history has taught us anything it's that if the Cowboys trade down then fans shouldn't expect any serious talent or difference makers from the draft. The Cowboys are notoriously horrible at trading down and finding value and do a much better job when they stay put.

Exactly.

Everyone has to remember that "trading down" doesn't mean we trade out of the first round (as some seem to think) or even that we trade to late 1st round. If we are at Pick 8-9 and a player is there the team with the 13-15 pick wants we may be able to trade down 4-6 spots and pick up an additional 2nd rounder.

Agreed. This is the much likelier scenario.

You're right, it's all relative.

But if I know Jerry like I know Jerry, we're going to look to upgrade CB, DL, and S very early in the draft. We'll probably even reach for a guy or two, the holes we have on this team are very apparent and I'd rather us address the OL in free agency. We can't afford to have rookies protecting our franchise QB during the prime of his career.

I agree but I don't want to go through the growing pains of a rookie FS. I think FS should be our biggest target in the FA market. I would consider a real NT with our first pick then one O-lineman with the second pick and one in free agency.

They see him every day in practice.

I'm guessing if they thought he could play right now, they'd get him out there.

Josh Brent is looking like a real NT, he could end up being a major steal.
